My car has 27,000 miles on it and this is the second time this has happened in 3,000 (roughly) miles. The first time it was worked on the mechanic said that mine was the 2nd or 3rd he had to fix on that model, but the other cars had the problem in different gears. This is really discouraging and it gets old having to baby it into fifth gear......
Any suggestions before the lemon law rolls around, because I think it's gonna do it again on down the road..
By the way how exactly does the lemon law work..
thanks

Wow.. That really sucks. I haven't noticed anything wrong with mine *yet*.. At about what mileage did the problem start? Oh, yeah.. lemon law? Well, it all depends on the state if I remember correctly.. But here in Illinois, your rights under that law would be expired if I'm not mistaken. Check your state lemon law.

hmm... is it grinding into the gear on hard up-shifts and down-shifts?

here is a thread about my problems and solutions that people offered. I plan to take the car in tomorrow and get it fixed.
Good luck

no, it's on upshifts, anything above 2800rmp in forth will bring a grind in fifth on the upshift........!? Why only above that rpm I don't know! It's at the dealer, again, getting its "teeth" worked on! Got a nice Legacy outback wagon as a loaner!
Again!

aren't you the lucky one.
The dealer has yet to tell me if it will be covered under warranty. I have this dumpy Jeep Liberty. Now don't get me wrong, I love jeeps, I use to have a Jeep CJ7. but man the Liberty blows compared to my subby...

Same problem with my RS. 5th gear grinds unless I double clutch. (giving the rpms time to drop) thats really what it is. It doesn't like to be shifted quickly. Brought it in a couple tiems and guess which line I get???

They obviously don't know how to drive a Suby either!
I've dealt with it, oh well.

my wrx with a few hundred miles is grinding when shifting up into 5th gear no matter how or when i do it. don't know much about cars, but sounds like this synchro thing from reading other's posts. my question is how is this fixed and how long does it usually take?
uugh, so painful to shift into 5th...guess i could take side roads and stay in 4th from here to phila. that should only triple or quadruple my commute. well, dealer opens in about 14 hours.
