EarlQHan 12-11-2006, 03:57 AM That is a good looking Lancer. If it drives anything like it looks like, should compete well against the Corolla, Civic, Sentra.

lexusisforlovers 12-11-2006, 04:11 AM i hope those rims arent staggered.
xjetx 12-11-2006, 04:20 AM Nice Mazda!
EBWRC#1 12-11-2006, 04:38 AM It's just ok!
Kaymin 12-11-2006, 04:39 AM why does it look like the rear bumper is part of the rear quarter? lol... would suck for repairs!
Kostamojen 12-11-2006, 04:44 AM Oh snap someone broke the embargo!
Oh and... why does it look like the last-gen Galant??? Looks like that kind of size too.
Italiano 12-11-2006, 08:13 AM Damit, why does it look like they are ripping off an Alfa!?!?!?!?!
Even a poster in the above link says the same!
The Front light's look like jap versions if the new 159 lights
The Rear light's look like squared off 156 lights!
grrrrrr Mitsu = give me a friggin break
the concept was really cool looking,
but as a Die hard Alfa fan; the new lacer looks like a cheap imitation

darknightohio 12-11-2006, 09:18 AM Looks much better than the current generation.
SCRAPPYDO 12-11-2006, 09:29 AM Welcome Back Mitsu.. this car may save you...
Dirty25RS 12-11-2006, 09:32 AM They are dropping the 4G63, for an all aluminum block.
Hazdaz 12-11-2006, 09:41 AM Very nice looking - I HOPE they come out with a wagon-version not unlike the Evo concept that they were showing off earlier... this design really lends itself to a wagon version.
I would be very curious to know how much it is going to cost - espesially since it shares a platform with the Outlander, and that has an amazingly low price - starts at $20k.... so this sedan should be even cheaper.
LastResort 12-11-2006, 09:47 AM If they've got decent reliability, I think this could be a good product for them. The CVT with "6 preselected gear ratios" sounds a bit odd tough.

Tom
Storz 12-11-2006, 10:55 AM Nice Mazda!
That is the first thing that came to my mind too
aren040 12-11-2006, 12:01 PM I think they did a good job redoing the Lancer. Also I highly boubt that this will impact the Corolla or Civic market any more than the last Lancer did. Mitsu still has their reliability issues to work out. People Bying Civics and Corollar are more into MPG and reliability than the other aspects of the car. Mistsu still has reliability issues that need to be worked out before they can really start to threaten Toyota, Honda, or even Nissan.
Hazdaz 12-11-2006, 12:02 PM I think the front looks a bit like the charger
http://www.clausencars.com/DODGE%20Charger%20RT.jpg
OK, I see the resemblance to the old Galant and Mazda and even Volvo - none of that resemblance is a bad thing in my book.... but I TOTALLY don't see any resemblance to a Charger.

+1, Mazda6, kinda blah looking
SoDealer 12-11-2006, 12:34 PM dumbed down too much... hopefully the EVO will be more like the concept
I like it. Alfa makes beautiful cars and immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I don't think the resemblance is a bad thing. This car looks 10x better than the current Impreza.
design1stcode2nd 12-11-2006, 12:50 PM Looks a lot better than the current lancer and should do well against a Mazda 6, and Civic. It will be interesting to see how the Evo and Ralliart turn out next month.

Garwin 12-11-2006, 01:37 PM I think it looks stout for an economy car.
I think the base version will look weak when it's fitted with steelies and have the side skirts & front bumper lip taken off.
You notice Mistu painted the window trim to match the body color at the top? Weird.
I think it looks good, the new EVO should be sick.

Very Mazda6, I also see a little TL in there. All in all, the Lancer looks like a competator... especially if they go whole hog with the electronic gadgets.

Is funny how subies and mitsus look like alfas now ( I know, Zapatinas was working for Subaru but...) I should get an Alfa and end this turmoil in my head!!
Beaverboy 12-11-2006, 02:35 PM ( I know, Zapatinas was working for Subaru but...)Zapatinas had nothing to do with the way any of the current Subarus look. The only thing of his we've seen is the Tribeca's pretty dash.

And I will say that this new Lancer looks much better than the dowdy lancer that's currently on the market. I just can't get over the neo-DSM scenario that surrounds it. :p
only1agam 12-11-2006, 02:40 PM well that lancer definitely isn't gonna be ugly to the avg consumer... i'd be curious to see the Ralliart one...
teh POD 12-11-2006, 03:05 PM i think it looks nice for an econobox. anyone got interior shots?
Geese1 12-11-2006, 03:05 PM And I thought Subies had a lot of wheel-gap!
In some of those side shots it looks like the thing has an overbite!
Waiting to see what the interior looks like too, as that is one are where they received a lot of criticism.
Oh, and I too am curious to see how far from the Evo concept car they veer with the actual production model.

It’s my understanding that the Ralliart Lancer will be more than wheels and stickers this time and be a direct competitor to the WRX. So you will have the base 3 models with various options, a more performance variant in the Ralliart with more “Go” bits and then the full Evo. I seriously hope they bring out the Sportback a year after to keep interest going. That one by far was my favorite of the last two years auto shows.
Hanzo 12-11-2006, 04:49 PM I'm glad the base lancer is looking this good, the current lancer look awful however the evo version of the current car looks badass. I can't wait for the new Evo, it should look very very mean.
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2006/12/lancer_03.jpghttp://www.mitsubishi-i.com/images/lancer/gallery/gallery_img/gal_6.jpg
Impreza01 12-11-2006, 05:59 PM For a bread-and-butter car, it looks good. I remember reading some analyst report talking how this Lancer needs to be a hit, or Mitsubishi will probably never recover in the US. A Mitsubishi worker said they used the Mazda 3 as the base for comparison, and they managed to beat it in all respects (yeah right, the Mazda 3 has more hp; 156 > 152). Mitsubishi better start praying.
dodiox 12-11-2006, 06:19 PM look at the current lancer vs the lancer EVO 9 its an AMAZING difference.
this picture shown is the regular lancer. the EVO version will look AMAZING from what I can see so far.
EnterTheDragon 12-11-2006, 06:20 PM I think it's a great looking econbox. IMO with Nissan taking a step backwards, maybe Mitsu can finaly make some money with this.
There's some nice lines in there and the evo x could be really sweet.
Did anyone notice that the rear end is totally acceptable with a wing, but wingless it's just horribly unproportioned.
MidnightSti05 12-11-2006, 06:22 PM body reminds me of a TL
Corkfish 12-11-2006, 06:31 PM Any options avaiable yet? I've heard this may be available with AWD and turbo. Like the EVO, I suspect Mitsubishi will want to make it a faster, better handling car than its Subaru counterpart.
felickz 12-11-2006, 06:34 PM Wow i have never seen people criticize good styling so much
Wait till you see the specs on the ralliart! Turbo/AWD will make a direct competitor with the wrx.
Optimus Prime 12-11-2006, 07:09 PM Actually, after looking at it a few times today, it already is beginning to look old to me.

DankWRX 12-11-2006, 07:42 PM Wow. So now it has been compared to every econo car out there. It looks so much better than the current lancer. I have to give it that. Beats the hell out of our pig nose '06 anyway.
ram95 12-11-2006, 07:49 PM body reminds me of a TL
that was the first thing that i thought too
JoeyW 12-11-2006, 08:30 PM ...
so when is the 08 impreza coming? next month?
Kaymin 12-11-2006, 08:37 PM 08 Impreza needs to be revealed soon!
Evil XT 12-11-2006, 08:44 PM 08 Impreza needs to be revealed soon!
Yeah... i guess you cant wait to see the matrix STi?
The evo and lancer are based off the cedia or whatever the hell its called. Both companies are starting to really suck and go away from the roots that made them who they are...
Optimus Prime 12-11-2006, 08:58 PM Scion tC anybody?
Umm, no.
It just looks like a bad conglomeration of all the other crappy econo cars out there today.
rice h8r 12-11-2006, 11:01 PM IMO the grille is too low and the chrome has to go! rear looks like a new IS.
otherwise, COULD be better. meh.
I personally don't see the Mazda6, Alfa Romero, Scion, Charger, etc, etc.
But I do think this new Lancer looks awesome. I'd buy a Evo X over an 07 Sti if we were just doing looks :)
IronMonkeyL255 12-11-2006, 11:53 PM The proportions look odd to me.
It looks like they are dressing a plain-jane car up to look mean, but not too mean because that would turn off some potential buyers, but.........
The Evo version should look pretty badass if it end up looking at least close to the concept, but this just looks 'off' to me.
I think the rumors about this magical AWD turbo ralliart edition are a joke. Thats what the EVO is not the ralliart.
Also if you read the article they said 3 trim levels. GTS being the top trim which has paddle shifters. To me it seems mitsu went the way of Toyota/HonDUH and decided to forget the HP game and work on bells and whistles in low end models. Offer the same engine in all models except he top of the line model and just change the trim. Toyota and honDUH have been doing this for years and its worked pretty dam good.
Mitsu is no longer about the younger generation they want to make cheap eco's that compete with corolla's plain and simple. Look at the new outlander, Styling and bells and whistles again, power is sad.

Looks pretty good!
Now only if they didn't put one of those hideous "Hey I wanna make a statement but I have no taste whatsoever" interior like they did with the Galant and the Eclipse.
At any rate, those of you that want to do a long term test drive of this car only need to call Enterprise.
All of you guys love the EVO X concept. So Mitsu goes ahead and makes the Lancer, changing VERY little from the concept vehicle as far as the body goes besides what was necessary for a base model.
Now all of you guys are back on here saying how much you don't like it? I don't get it?
Make up your mind.

bakadayo 12-12-2006, 04:15 PM I like everything but the front...it looks kinda mushed? The concept had nice grill colouring, and a nice hood w/ the inverted hood scoops.

design1stcode2nd 12-12-2006, 05:36 PM You have less than a month to wait until you see the Evo X, just wait until then to say you don’t like it.
For a standard economy car it looks better than a Civic, on par with a Mazda 6, better than a corolla and better than an impreza. If the interior quality is significantly improved this will sell well for Mitsubishi. I reserve judgment until the Evo is released. It seems that they have remained fairly true to the concept so far so I have hopes they will do the save for the Evo. It’s not like Evo and STI owners buy for looks anyway.
hyp36rmax 12-12-2006, 06:02 PM The current gen evo is to the next gen evo as the previous gen eclipse is to the current gen eclispe. Mitsubishi will only last another 2 years at this rate.
Your on your own on this one... this design is very popular, much more aggressive looking and much more simliar to the concept-x which to my knowledge a hit as previously stated.
I like it. Classic, tough looks just like the old skyline.

Why, cause it has similar styling cues to our GC8? I think that's a good thing. IMO, I think the GC8 is one design that doesn't grow old. Subaru has been trying to correct their mistake since the bugeyes. I think Mitsu will hit the mark with this car.

Mitsubishi has confirmed it will use the NAIAS 2007 in January for the worldwide unveiling of three new vehicles.
Mitsubishi will introduce the all-new 2008 Lancer. The Lancer is Mitsubishi’s compact sedan, one variant of several based on Mitsubishi’s all-new global platform. Mitsubishi will provide more details as the show draws closer.
In addition, Mitsubishi will unveil the Lancer Evolution Prototype. The Lancer Evolution -- called “Evo” for short -- is extremely popular with the young, compact tuner audience.
Mitsubishi will also hold the worldwide introduction of a new concept car, details of which are being kept secret for now.
SCRAPPYDO 12-13-2006, 09:09 AM Pronounced... SKI - RINE
dodiox 12-13-2006, 12:25 PM If that car weight 3100 lbs then I'm worried about the weight of the Evo X :(

I think it looks old as well because it borrows design cues from cars that are already out for a while. In fact it looks like the previous generation Galant, while not a bad looking car, it references something that is already obsolete.

Wannascooby 12-22-2006, 01:46 AM The look will grow on everyone just like how the pig nose has grown on people. Looks less aggressive then the evo 9, but more aggressive then the previous ralliart. I think the ralliart looks like ugh. Waste of money imo and it was one of the least satisfying car purchased according to consumer report.
jigga 12-23-2006, 11:54 AM I think it looks old as well because it borrows design cues from cars that are already out for a while. In fact it looks like the previous generation Galant, while not a bad looking car, it references something that is already obsolete.

true, but a lot of companies do that these days...mining their past models for inspiration that is...
I am sure it will do well.. It looks better as a base model than the Impreza I have to say... and if that photochop is anything indicative of what it could look like when the tuners get their hands on it, i think they might have quite the hit on their hands..
I think we should reserve judgement until we see the version of the car that we are all waiting for... the evo..
heck, when the impreza showed in base form, I could not see the point...that is until the WRX and STi versions showed... The base version of these cars always look bland, blah, and uninspiring... this one actually manages to look interesting imo.
Are there any interior pics of the car?
bitterWRX 12-24-2006, 05:42 AM It saddens me that something as cool as this:

can turn into that. :(

upnygimp 12-24-2006, 11:51 AM All of you guys love the EVO X concept. So Mitsu goes ahead and makes the Lancer, changing VERY little from the concept vehicle as far as the body goes besides what was necessary for a base model.
Now all of you guys are back on here saying how much you don't like it? I don't get it?
Make up your mind.
That's the way it is. So many cars have been brought out due to positive public reaction, only to be axed a short while later when sales are completely flat. If these morons don't shut up, the automakers are going to stop listening to the general public completely, lest they get burned once again. :(
WRX_tougue_squirrel 12-24-2006, 12:43 PM Why, cause it has similar styling cues to our GC8? I think that's a good thing. IMO, I think the GC8 is one design that doesn't grow old. Subaru has been trying to correct their mistake since the bugeyes. I think Mitsu will hit the mark with this car.
dont dis the bugeyes
domestic_abuser 12-24-2006, 12:49 PM it looks like a galant for sure, and personally i love my bug eye

you guys are right...a couple of guys on an subaru forum on the internet dictated that the lancer look similiar to the concept. We have some serious weight around here!

They're just a few of a great many people bub.

as if looks are why any of those cars fail.

A lot of the time it's them trying to satisfy the public by bringing out a car similar to the show car, then pass the expense of building that swoopy and artistic body onto the customer and all of a sudden nobody is interested. If they went with a cheaper to produce more generic body, people would howl about the fact that they ruined it when they brought it to production.
Examples: SSR, Crossfire
Eyeflyistheeye 12-26-2006, 04:18 AM If this is a harbinger of things to come, then let me say that Mitsubishi is a stunning example of a car company using common sense.
The styling looks more like a $25k car than the el cheapo Civics and Corollas running around, and a standard 152 horsepower engine trumps every other Japanese car in its class.
Not to mention their 10-year warranty and the size- it almost looks as big as the Galant from several years ago.
blk_wrx 12-26-2006, 05:26 AM Almost want to say styling is not futuristic enough to much like whats out there now... and its still ~6 months away. I thought Mitsu would have to come out with a radical design that would catch peoples eyes, this one kinda blends in. Still, Evo will look very good (current evo is sick yet i can't stand the base lancer), lets hope thats not the only thing good about. Lets hope evo sales alone keep mitsu here in the US (that was a quick prayer)...
Hazdaz 12-26-2006, 07:35 AM I think in base form, it will look slightly too bland, but in higher-end models - and espesially in EVO form - could look very nice. Older generation Jetta/Golf were kinds like that... the base models were nice but kinda bland, but in GLI or GTI form looked quite sharp.
With the right marketing, Mitsu can potentially do really good with this car. We would be so lucky if the next-gen Impreza looks this good.
bluetwo 12-26-2006, 10:53 PM I actually think it looks a little like the Evo X.
ADIDAS 12-26-2006, 11:12 PM I actually think it looks a little like the Evo X.
I thought it was at first. But that is LIGHT YEARS better looking then the current lancer.
Paintballguy 12-26-2006, 11:15 PM looks like a mazda
keepclam 12-26-2006, 11:17 PM a standard 152 horsepower engine trumps every other Japanese car in its class.
Is the 173hp Impreza not a Japanese car in its class?
Is the 173hp Impreza not a Japanese car in its class?
Yeah, and the Mazda 3 is available with 150HP and 160HP engines.
bluetwo 12-27-2006, 04:01 PM Is the 173hp Impreza not a Japanese car in its class?
I'm really not sure. The AWD part makes it a different car IMO. If it doesn't go into a different class it should because the driveline makes it a lot heavier.

And that is one spartan interior. Mitsu didn't get the memo that customers don't want cheap interiors in small cars anymore.

they did get it, they just dont give a ****, the say spend more money and buy yourself a benz if you want a nice interior, compared to the other econoboxes, IMO i think that interior looks pretty cozy

There is a difference between simple and cheap. I like the interior. It's clean looking and easy to use.
