View Full Version : Opinions wanted: Good 2nd car?
John2.5RS 12-12-2006, 11:06 PM So I'm going to need another car to drive around while I go through the process of rebuilding another Subi. I was looking at buy a used G35 coupe from a friend for a good price. I would like (kinda need) room in the back seat though :( so i've also been entertaining other ideas; New Legacy spec. B, new G35 Sedan, IS 250, or IS350. I'd like to keep it under $40k. Don't plan on modding it (too much ;) ). Maybe just a "California custom" Wheels, springs, tint, & *maybe* an exhaust and/or ground effects. I basically just want a nice daily driver that I can have fun with Rear or AWD, so no Toyota Camry or anything like that. ;) anyone have any ideas? And reasons for your picks would be nice too.
v8eaterWRX 12-12-2006, 11:18 PM Legacy Spec B ftw!!!
The review in Subiesport tells all :)
shwoop_soobie 12-12-2006, 11:19 PM what happened to mazda speed boy?
just buy an M5... no more messing around
endlesscreationscc 12-13-2006, 12:32 AM spec b

Like I said before, want rear or all wheel drive, and trying to keep it under $40k. An M5 is on the list of cars I would have, one day I might, they're expensive to buy parts for. You could have bought one though. get your $$$ back from KP for all the stuff you paid for and never recieved (bride seats, interior, body kit, wheels, tires, etc....) and get one!
boosted20 12-13-2006, 03:43 AM Get an EVO 9 and a gt35r for it. lol.jk. If you want a NICE car, that lexus IS350 is a hot car for 07. It cost under 40K, really good looking inside and out, and it's pretty quick. Too many people have the G35. the spec b is not even close to the IS350 but the spec b is still a nice car.
SubeSTIle 12-13-2006, 04:25 AM if your going to spend 40k... why not just buy an STI? just a thought
shemoves 12-13-2006, 03:11 PM my guess on him not getting the STi is he wants a comfy DD. He's already got the swapped GC8. The new spec B is slick cause it has the STi 6-speed. A friend of mine has an IS350, very nice cars. Drive really well, super comfy, look sweet, great turning radius...I was pretty impressed when I drove it. His only complaint is that the back seat is small...dunno how much rear legroom you are wanting. Having been driven around in a G35, and driven an IS350...the IS350 is a MUCH nicer vehicle. Dude, we should go take some test drives.
Imprezme05 12-13-2006, 03:24 PM Scion XB FTW!!~~~ THat has a lot of room in the back seat hahahaha
mjc1055 12-13-2006, 04:46 PM what about an e36 m3 sedan? that'd be a pretty fun daily driver, plus it's functional.

yea... when my bro graduated college he got a G35 sedan.. it is very ok.. it gets pretty bad fuel economy. and the inside is not up to par in my opinion for a "luxury" car compared to many of the luxury cars my parents have owned.. form lexus to audi.. including an infiniti Q45.. that was sweet, but out of the given price range. I really like the is350.. that is a sleek little car. great total package.. and lexus is a much smoother vehicle than infiniti always...... and a better daily driver in my opion. the difference between my moms ls400 and q45 way back when was beyond night and day. BUT... the new G35 has caught my attention.. it looks nice.. worth a look too.. but I like the lexus..
pudnana 12-13-2006, 11:07 PM I hate to be HARDCORE Subaru guy. (even though I am) But how can you go wrong with the Spec B? It looks beautiful. Has nice interior. Nav system. SI-Drive for economy or performance. Its a great car in my opinion. The G35 is just a nice Maxima and the IS's are just nice Camry's.
SubyRSdriver 12-14-2006, 02:14 AM I think the legacy is nice as well.. and I'd sport one anyday.. But I'd aslo have to respectfully say you are pretty far off on the camry maxima bit..
The M35 is a "nice maxima" totally different car from the G35.. G 35 is the altima platform.. I would say a loaded maxima is nicer than the previous G35 sedans. But... nissans are all front wheel drive dude.. Infiniti's are not.
and there is actually a pretty big difference in the higher end infinitis from their nissan brothers. Also the Is350 is far from a nice camry.. I actually have driven both cars and I would have to say the new camry has a lot of first year bugs and is a piece of junk with decent econo car potential.. The lexus is pretty slick. No toyota minus a supra handles like it.. toyotas are also front wheel drive.. It has a 300HP torque happy 6 banger versus a 260 HP temperamental economy based engine which boast 30+ mpg highway.
The lexus has paddle shifters.. which is actually a nice touch for auto users.. it is precise and crisp unlike most.. the camry doesnt offer anything like it. It has a far nicer interior than the highest end toyota camry.. a better warranty. and is much nicer looking and much sexier lines then the bubble butt camry. for a few starters.
PS.. I am hardcore subie too.. I would compare the IS350, and legacy head to head.. and look at the new G35 to see if it much improved.. the Lexus may not hold up if you are looking mostly for a bang for buck deal.. lexus is def a status symbol as well as a fine automobile.
racingfish 12-14-2006, 11:19 AM they drift the shiet outta the m45's in japan.... i love em. they're bootyfull~!!
Romanwrx03 12-14-2006, 11:53 AM Spec B or Forrester would be nice second daily drivers. I like the G35s but not if you need the room.
RockBlocker 12-14-2006, 12:16 PM Legacy for awd
G35 for rwd
borkjam 12-14-2006, 12:41 PM Some day Toyota/Lexus will offer a manual transmission with a hot motor. Try buying a V8 with a manual in anything they make.
The IS350 with a 6 speed manual would be the answer.
racingfish 12-14-2006, 12:49 PM I like the ls460 it has like an 8 speed auto or something like that...
cronic 12-14-2006, 12:56 PM Buy my g35..lol Susp, and wheels are done already.:)
THe m35, 45 are ****ing pimp. I was really thinking about getting an m45 a few months back.
VSB XT 12-14-2006, 01:03 PM Hmmm a GT30R'd Spec B FTMFW!!! Or an IS350 for the second choice.:alien:
shemoves 12-14-2006, 01:15 PM ...G35 sedan.. it is very ok.. ...the inside is not up to par...
exactly
shwoop_soobie 12-14-2006, 02:29 PM buy an H2 john, you know you wanna
racingfish 12-14-2006, 02:42 PM YEAH im not too keen on nissans interriors... there so0o0o 1980ish
LegacyGt05 12-14-2006, 03:31 PM I say get the Legacy too!!! Of course, I am a bit biased :) heh.
Smoby 12-14-2006, 03:50 PM I think he decided on a H3.
racingfish 12-14-2006, 04:17 PM I think he decided on a H3.
hahaha no way....
boarderguy 12-14-2006, 04:20 PM go with the new jeep comander super comphy and a sick car or a grand cherokee. it would be a nice opposite to the subi.
John2.5RS 12-14-2006, 06:22 PM Some day Toyota/Lexus will offer a manual transmission with a hot motor. Try buying a V8 with a manual in anything they make.
The IS350 with a 6 speed manual would be the answer.
Get a used SC400, they had a few with manuals, i've driven them. ;) V8 & manual.
John2.5RS 12-14-2006, 06:23 PM buy an H2 john, you know you wanna
Hummers are for dicks. When you getting one?
John2.5RS 12-14-2006, 06:35 PM I think I've decided on an 07 G35 Sedan, Slate blue.

The G has more room in the rear than the Lexus or the Subi, same power/ engine displacement as the lexus(different powerbands, I know), and it has a six speed manual. *side note* the ES series lexus are more like camrys than the IS's. ;) I worked at Lexus for a while. I really think they do top notch customer service too, but I would rather have a 6-speed manual than an auto. The Spec. B is nice, but doesn't have all the pimp ish inside like the G or the rear seat room, The Subi base price is $2k higher, They weigh about the same, and the Subi is down 60 hp. the Si drive is nice, but I would rather just have my GC with a map switch that adds power with better fuel, not de-tune it for better gas mileage. I think nissan/infinity made nice improvements on the interior feel, and the bose sound system is top notch, The VQ35 is a great engine too, smooth, strong and torquey. It also has a 20 gal. gas tank compared to the 16 gal. tanks of the IS and the Spec. B. I don't plan on modding it so it would be nice to have a little more range on a tank of gas for the longer road trips.
John2.5RS 12-14-2006, 08:49 PM Okay, so it's on the way. Got it loaded with a few cool option packages(Prem., Tech, and Nav. :) ). It should be here in a week or so. Now I'm trying to see what kind of wheels to go with. It comes with the 18's, but I'm sure it would look sharp on a nice set of staggered offset 18's or 19's and lowered a little. Going to debadge it, Maybe a new grill and ground effects or a body kit. Kinda have to wait and see what's going to become available. Now I can focus on getting the GC back together! :disco:
cronic 12-14-2006, 09:25 PM In tribute to your old suby 19" gold Ce28n's Yeaaaaaa boyyeeee.

thats a pretty sleek car. what were your thoughts on the 07 interior.. Havnt seen it yet? I am betting it is far superior to the previous models.. they were always called out on that aspect.
bobturismo 12-15-2006, 12:29 AM you bought it THAT fast? You know I got guys at infiniti right?

John2.5RS 12-15-2006, 02:12 AM /\ You know how it is.
It's pretty dope inside. It has a built in hard drive that can store 9.5 GB  of music!

all kinds of cool ish inside. keyless start is uber pimp too.

BrianH82 12-22-2006, 01:02 PM IS350 hands down, those keep up with STI in stock to stock form w/o a sweat and the quality of Lexus is untoubleable.

You own a subaru because?:p

I've always had subaru's in my family. My mom had a XT turbo, then a 91 Legacy (my 1st car). This was my second RS (Had a 2000 & 2001) Subarus were the first cars I learned how to work on. I never have to bring them to the dealership because I do all the work myself. ;)
Now i'm trying to figure out if I want to forget about getting another GC and buying ebeck's car and dropping my motor into that.

If you can't get what you want, just get a good job and work for it!! :D Be happy with what you have, no point in wasting time thinking about things you don't have. Do what every you want, who cares what other people think? All I know is I have one life to live and I really don't care about peoples' perceptions & opinions that have never met me, and know nothing about me, So, with that said, If you want to keep talk ish about my girl, I'll be more than happy to meet you and knock a few of you front teeth out of you ass. :) have a nice day.
