i have an 04 WRX, and i loaded up the stg I 93 oct base map a while ago. recently i loaded the economy real time map for the winter (and cuz i got a $200 gas bill last month) but now my car doesnt seem to like it all that much. when i have the heat on, lights on, and radio on, it sometimes begins to stall out at idle. also, all my lights dim. i thought that this would just be an electrical problem, but i also see a cloud of white smoke come out of my tailpipe. does ne one have ne ideas on whats going on? should i switch to the married stock map? am i doing permanent damage to my car?

the economy map uses advanced timing, and less boost. that shouldn't effect the electrical components of your car. that may be a dying battery/alterantor.

I wouldn't personally run the economy map.. due to the advanced timing, if you need to get on it for whatever reason you could be hurting your engine. if you're looking to save gas, make sure you car is tuned up, tires are inflated properly, and stay out of boost.

u said that in another post, and it makes sense, but i dont foresee needing to get on it during the winter. but u think that staying out of boost would have the same gas saving effects of the economy map?

the differnce that a little timing does isn't going to make a huge impact on fuel economy. there are some threads around here where people have monitored mpg's with econo vs regular at same boost and the difference was so minute it wasn't worth it...

however that small difference in timing could mean detonation, which is bad.

alright, good point. should i go back to stg I map for the winter, or married stock?

Re-flash to Stage 1 93 octane map and get your charging system checked.
