Hey all, i searched around but couldn't really find anything that sorta matched what happened to me. I was in the USA today, and took a fast hard turn onto the freeway and then noticed my CEL had come on. Pulled it over when I had a chance, checked everything I could think of (fluid level, connections, belts, etc..) nothing was a miss. Stopped for a while, came back and it was gone....bout 45 mins later on it came again. Got home, then went out a short time later, still on, stopped at a buddies place quickly, not on anymore, and has not been since.
The car is stock, except for an after market CAI (something I am trying to get rid of, and could be the cause)
I run Chevron 94 octane (which I read could also be the problem)
I haven't been driving it to rough lately....few high speed take offs from stop lights, and a real burn on the Connector ( Buck nighty, at 2 am in the morning...I couldn't resist :D)
any suggestions?

just get the code read dude (not from a dealership.. they'll charge you over 50 bucks for it... someone should be able to do it for free..) otherwise it could be just about anything

then check out this link http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=185275

and if you want more info, report back :)

Why would 94 octane throw a CEL ? I have been putting it in my WRX for quite a while with only good results.

hmm i find chevron 94 gives me a code too! Petrocan 94 kicks ass though. hmm could be my imagination too. could it be THAT different??

Plenty use Chev 94 with zero problems. It's a good gas. Get the code pulled. For sure get rid of the CAI.

Why is it the slow car drivers always try to make rules for the turbo guys?

bman, read the code. I bet it has something to do with the CAI. Short of the SPT or K&N (arguable), CAI's are absolute crap on these cars.

If you have had your CAI for a while, it would have caused a CEL not too long after it was installed. And the quality of fuel wouldn't do it either. Make sure that when you take your car in that the light is on when they pull the code. prolly something silly like an O2 sensor not switching or something like that.

Geoff, even if the light is off, the cel should still be in the memory and you can still read it.

I did the same thing just before my car went into the bodyshop, I absolutely buried my speedo, it was well into the 240 range- 5th gear with the rev limiter getting ready to kick in.

Geoff, even if the light is off, the cel should still be in the memory and you can still read it.

that is true, but if it is an emission sensor, a code in memory will only tell you the fault. If the light is on, they should be able to pinpoint it that much easier.

good call Geoff.
Plus, if you go to Canadian Tire, the twits who work there will typically look at the dash and if there's no light they'll say "You're fine, there's no light. Come back if it goes on again".

bman, I have an ODB reader. If you'd like to use it, you're welcome to. Problem is, you have to come out to Surrey. PM me if you're interested.

See hypa, I don't make the rules...I just enforce them. And if anyone wants to test my rule enforcing in the Octagon, I'm game! Except Dalton and Malcolm McAvoy, because they are better lol

<--- thinks anyone who finds 100-120mph dangerously fast hasn't been that fast in a decent car

That was a scary speed in my old 89' Honda Accord. Of course, running 13" wire wheels, and hydraulic suspension, it wasn't a speed demon in the first place.

No worries bman.
Keep an eye on both Princess Auto and Canadian Tire for OBD scanner sales. You can pick up a $250 scanner, for less than $100 sometimes, and they're a good tool to have.

Another cheap and much more powerful alternative if you have access to a laptop is to get Colby's $80 cable from http://www.tactrix.com/ and then get FREE OBD2 software from http://techdiag.co.uk/obdscantech/ScanTechProject.rar which will give you some seriously powerfull options..............;)

Ressurecting this, i got the code
P0507 Idle control system RPM higher than expected.
Now i was told this was a idle control sensor, is this anything like a Throttle Position Sensor?
They Cleared the code and told me if it comes back to bring it in and they woudl replace the sensor. Told me it was probably just due to the cold or what have you. Anyone else had this happen?
