Im looking for a sub for my R32. Ive got an infinity 10 right now w/ maybe 250 watts going to it. Kind of sucks. Looking to go w/ single 12 in a sealed box. But i don't want anything thats just massive and booms all over the place, i like hard bass, but i want it to be clean. I was thinking about the Alpine Type R. Anyone have any input? This is going in my hatch, not the evo.

Three Things:

#1: DO A SEARCH! There are about 4950238540238502 threads on this subject. Everyone needs a new sub/amp/mids, etc...

#2: You may want to consider a vented box. There seems to be this running stereotype that vented boxes are only for boomy, farty, SPL setups.

This is not true. Vented boxes can be tuned for any range of desired bass, including the punchier response you seem to be going for.Your sealed box may be what's holding you back.

This is just my opinion, but I feel that vented boxes are all-around BETTER than sealed boxes, whether you're looking for an SPL-Fart Machine, or better SQ. In my experience, vented SQ boxes have more dB potential in comparison to their sealed equivalents, while maintaining accurate and smooth response.

#3: As for a sub? Eh, get whatever you want. Just remember that the enclosure is just as important as the driver itself, maybe more important. So-called "SQ" subs can be made to sound like twisted wreckage if not boxed right, and so-called "SPL" subs can actually be made to sound very good with some innovative box designs....

Good luck.

I have the Alpine Tpye R 12" in the smallest Qlogic box for a 12".
I had it in my SVTFocus and it was a great hard hitting sub in a car of your size. I reccomend it.

Yes i searched, not many threads on subs in hatches, which is why i posted a new thread. I guess im just not sure what size box i should get for my car, im not sure that i want a vented box. I have a ported box and it sounds like ass basically, but when i close up the port as best i can, it sounds alot better, so i just figgd id do better w/ sealed. Im more of a home audio nut than car but i know the basics are the same i guess. But i welcome the feedback, no matter how post whorish it may be.

It's not post whoring. If you look closely you will find a recommendation within. ;)

Try to broaden your search. It doesn't matter that you have a hatch. Skip that in your search criteria. Try searching "ported" and "sealed" together in the CAV&S forum in only thread titles. Work from there.

Oooh, it's like one of those cryptic crosswords with hidden clues!!!!

Ahem, anyway... yeah, vented can sound like ass if it's not done right, or not built for the sub... it's your choice.
