After doing some research online on sound deadening, I found that Second Skin's Damplifier was one of the better types of sound deadening available.
However, when I went to their website (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/secondskinaudio.com), I found they had a speaker kit available as well, which is different from what I'd seen for other companies' speaker kits. This speaker kit has some sort of pad that goes behind the speaker in addition to some sound deadening material.
My question is, would it be better to get 10 sq ft of Damplifier and putting a couple layers behind each of my speakers, or would it be better to just buy one or two speaker kits and installing the speaker pads and the provided damplifier behind the speakers?
I dont plan on doing the whole door, I just want to put it behind the speakers.
Thanks for the help guys.

I do a little of both...
I have deadened the doors just around the cone. Was not willing to add tons of weight to my car or put up the extra cash.
I also have behind-the-speaker support. Dynamat makes a good equivalent to that "damplifier" thing you're talking about.
In Sum: you can deaden both around the speaker and behind the speaker. the more support the better.

If you're asking about ONLY putting one or the other behind the speaker, quite honestly, you would be better off using it on the panel the speaker is mounted too around the speaker than behind it. Otherwise, what 'Tang said.

Hmm, I might not be being too clear about what I have in mind.
What I mean is would more Damplifier (or other butyl rubber sound deadening) be better than the one layer of Damplifier and the speaker pad? Or vica versa?
10 sq feet of this sound deadening is 20 bucks
-I would install a few layers behind each speaker
OR
Speaker kit is 25
-2 11"x11" pieces of damplifer
-2 speaker pads

the mat and the speaker pad accomplish different things. Mat is for mass loading of the surrounding area, to cause the resonance frequencies to drop lower in the spectrum hopefully becoming non-audioble. The speaker pad is to help break up the rear sound waves comes from the driver itself. the reason behind using it is because the sound waves reflect like mad and can actually return and strike the rear of the driver, which will cause a multitude of things to happen, such as forcing the driver to work harder to overcome that increased strain, mudding of the frequencies themselves, etc...
