View Full Version : Suggestions for mounting my XM Unit
Chapel 12-20-2006, 12:37 AM I have the XM Inno
it's a relatively small unit
I want to find a place to mount it where I can access it and it's out of the way, yet I want to find a place where I can run the power, antennae and audio cables to it
I was thinking of removing the ashtray and making a mount for down there, but is it possible to pass the audiocables through the back and out the ashtray?
I know the Pro Fit Vehicle Specific Mounts you can get mount it to the side of the main console, but I dont know how to run the cables cleanly to it.
How do you guys have your XM Units mounted?
Pics would help
vipernj 12-20-2006, 12:46 AM go to CC or BB and buy a Bracketron or Periph mount. You can pop the trim around the radio out and mount it between there. It looks very nice, clean and very functional..

Chapel 12-20-2006, 12:55 AM yeah, that's like the ProFit one
but my question is HOW can I run the power cables, antenna and audio cables cleanly?
I don't want wires hanging all over.

you run them the same way you wedge the mount in the dash.. I do dsr installs alll day long, and thats what I doo. The Inno has the ferrite on the antenna but it shouldnt matter.. Just have the wires come out through the wedge and then tie them to the mount...
Chapel 12-20-2006, 12:58 AM hmm... you think all those cables will come out through the little wedged opening without a problem?

Wylan 12-20-2006, 05:02 AM I pulled my Glovebox and stashed all my extra antenna cable behind it by the passenger door, power line is visible, but I can tolerate that

02BlueSuperRoo 12-20-2006, 03:19 PM Make sure you demo both XM and Sirius before you make a decision if you haven't already. IMO XM sucks and is not worth the money. I had it for 3 months and I never even used it. The sound quality and programming both sucked.
Chapel 12-20-2006, 03:37 PM I've had XM for about 3 or 4 years now and have always had their top of the line units...
I demo Sirius at work all the time and I find the sound quality on some of the talk stations for Sirius to be worse than AM. I also find the stations on Sirius dull. I rarely listen to a Sirius station for more than 2 songs whereas with XM I'll listen to a station all day.
So, in response, I say that Sirius sucks and is not worth the money...
Mayor McCheese 12-20-2006, 03:44 PM Mount the xm in the trash and get Sirius. Howard 100 and 101 > Anything on XM.
The Beej 12-20-2006, 04:05 PM mount it under the seat, just squeeze your cheeks to change the chanel, and let one go to turn it on and off, totally hands free!!

Same here. Cradle is held in place with commercial velcro. Mine has a remote, but I can reach the numbers also without any problem. I have the same cradle set up in my wife's Grand Cherokee. If we head out on a trip, I just pull out the radio, pop it in her car and we are good to go.
