View Full Version : will this speaker fit without choppin up the door?
jlam86 12-20-2006, 12:44 AM hello
Planning to install a pair of focal 165k2 into my wrx and I have a feeling it wont' fit unless I do some extensive modifications which I want to avoid. I have the 165v silm in right now and they fit flawlessly. but the k2's really have me wondering. TIA
Back Road Runner 12-20-2006, 01:00 AM It looks like they're exactly 3" deep. 3" is duable without modifications. Just grab an IA Performance spacer along with their extended door pins. That will give you enough depth, but you may want to grab a couple more washers from the hardware store to get the depth.
couchflambeau 12-20-2006, 01:04 AM with those extended door pins, have you guys run into issues with the door panel rubbing against the dash? I have some wear marks between the dash and doors where they butt up and wondering if anyone else has seen this issue before?
And don't say do a search.... I'll smack you !!! lol!!!

I already had some wear marks on my door panels in the same spots before installing the longer pins. So I don't think it matters much, as long as the door still closes.
jlam86 12-21-2006, 07:46 AM when you guys say longer pins, are you referring to those white clips in the door?

I made these. The Type-Arghsss have a 3" mounting depth. As you can see, I needed to grab some Plastic spacers too. I have no rubbing anywhere, even my speaker clears the inside of the panel (after I trimmed that stupid plastic ring on the doorcard)

These little white round thing are the pins they want you to get the extended ones for. I'd suggest it. I didn't and sometimes the doorcard sticks, sometimes it doesn't. I'd say if my pins were .25" longer, I'd have 0 issues.
One more thing: Wasn't there a thread a week or 2 ago in which it was stated that the 02-04 Impreza doors had worse fitment issues than the 05+? *Depth Wise*

I think the 05+ Imprezas have different door cards with more room between the inner metal panel and the plastic outer grill. So you can fit a deeper spacer without hitting the back of the plastic door panel.
jlam86 12-21-2006, 03:19 PM Wow, those pics are helpful levi, but for some reason, I still don't feel quite confident. Afterall, some are saying how the 02-04 have fitment issues (which mine falls into that category), and like others said, if you extend the pins, won't you have the door panel rubbing against the dash?
Do we pick up the pins at subaru? and is there a specific measurement I shoudl ask for? thanx
Charge 12-21-2006, 03:27 PM The pins are from IA Performance, not Subaru. The stock ones are too short, IA's are longer to push the door card out a bit.
It's not going to cause rubbing on your dash unless you already have fitment issues.
jlam86 12-21-2006, 04:49 PM if you get longer pins, wouldn't you see a gap between the metal of the door and the door card?
and is there a specific length for the pins? I don't want to end up getting one that is too long or still too short.
I really appreciate all the feedback.

You don't see a gap because you only use longer ones for the 2 or 3 pins closest to the speaker. And there is rubber weatherstrip around where the door panel goes as well. IA performance sells them as a kit, there's only one type you can order from them.
Limited035 12-21-2006, 07:02 PM The long pins are great, I used them and the spacers to install my MB Quart QSC216 (2.5"). The shipping from IA is expensive though.

correct...
Back Road Runner 12-22-2006, 02:06 AM ^^^ so...you're saying I should trade in my old Forester?
