alright.

problem: rough idling, feels like a fuel cutoff or govenor on the highway i'll be in cruise control (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16435231#) than the acceleration will stop all of the sudden than suddenly it'll acellerate quickly, bucks occassionally when moving from a stand still ....

i have a '01 RS i recently purchased like a month ago and about a week ago it started throwing a CEL, no biggie i take it in and they say it's the spark plug wires ... so i changed to ultralite or 3rd party brand wires the check engine light disapeered for a couple of days but my problem still persisted, so i finally bucked up went to subaru and bought some oem plug wires thinking that might be my issue so i put them in and the CEL was still being thrown but now it'll turn off intermittently. So i'm just tryin' to figure out what could be wrong with the car (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16435231#), because when the car runs right i'm definitely happy with my purchase but now that i've been going through this struggle it slowly takes the fun out of driving the car ... so someone help me !

one theory i had althought i know it shouldn't be the cause of the CEL is that i recently realized the cars (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16435231#) in need of an alternator (headlights dim during idle, rough idle) but could that possibly be the cause of the CEL.

anyways if you guys could give me some guidance i'd greatly appreciate it !

Happy Holidays ! ...

do you have the code from the CEL?

get the code pulled and we can probably be of more assistance.

Ok, you said that after changing the plug wires it seemed to help for a few days, right? Did you by chance, pull the spark plug in the missing cyl.? I have found that most of the time we have a secondary misfire due to plug wire failure, that it is really a carbon track issue. You may want to check the spark plug insulator for carbon tracking. (it will look like a black felt tip pin mark on the outside of the spark plug) if that is the case, you will need to replace the plugs and I hate to say it the plug wires too. I hope this helps.
