View Full Version : Which synthetic blend are you running?
eurospek 12-25-2006, 02:39 AM I'm due for an oil change in about 400 miles and I'm debating on switching to synthetic. Before I get response to search please tell me what brand and weight of oil you are running and if you're satisfied with it. Thanks guys!
SubbyPAT 12-25-2006, 02:45 AM 5w30 Mobil 1 syn. nothing else will go in her belly:devil:
bluestonepath 12-25-2006, 03:48 AM 5w30 castrol full synthetic--it gets the job done, and I haven't had a single problem.
BTW, I don't know if my butt-dyno was acting up, but power delivery felt a lot smoother after switching to synthetic.
keita 12-25-2006, 03:51 AM 5w30 mobil 1

bomber991 12-25-2006, 01:46 PM Well I just switched over to synthetic as well. After 500 miles, the only difference I noticed is that it cost me twice as much to buy the oil!
And I'll add my 2 bits worth, and say that almost ANY full synthetic in the proper weight is going to be great. Yes there are debates about which is "best" but unless you either have modded your engine for more power than stock AND are driving it hard, or you want it to not have any wear after 200,000 miles, any synthetic will provide great lubrication, better cold flow and be fine for the engine.
Foo_Blyat 12-25-2006, 07:49 PM im bored sooo....
I personally wouldnt go to synthetic before 10k miles but im sure you're past that.
At 10k im switching to royal purple 5w30 for the winter, and Royal Purple 10w30 in the summer. Im also running Royal Purple Trans Oil and my gears feel awhole ton better.
eurospek 12-25-2006, 07:54 PM ^I'm at 18K.
hoffmanEstates 12-25-2006, 09:33 PM royal purple for me~ 5w30 all seasons
Heavy Fuji 12-25-2006, 09:52 PM GC, or German Castrol, 0W30. No complaints so far, other than cost and finding a convenient source. Only Autozone carries it around these parts, nearest one is half an hour away.
Psydotek 12-26-2006, 12:45 PM Amsoil 5w30. Costs me about $40-45 shipped for 5 quarts directly ordered from www.amsoil.com.
bluesubie 12-27-2006, 09:28 AM You said synthetic blend. Are you talking full synthetic or a conventional/synthetic blend? Royal Purple users- RP doesn't live up to the hype, IMHO. There were a few UOA's posted recently and the oil (all 10W30's) sheared down to a 20 weight in very few miles.
I use German Castrol 0W30 in summer and Motul 8100 5W30 in winter. The GC is too thick for me in the winter due to short trips. I run oil for 7,000-7,500 miles.

Big-E 12-27-2006, 05:31 PM Carquest (Valvoline) 5W-30 [API SM] & Subaru genuine turbo oil filter - no burning or ring bypass on the oil.
Valvoline SynPower 75W-90 [API GL-5] in the gear-box and in the rear differential; and each one also gets a 4oz tube of Lube Control modifier as part of the total mix.
The engine and drivetrain are each more quiet and smooth running.

Honest Bob 12-28-2006, 10:33 AM I've been using 5w30 castrol full synthetic as well. I dont loose a quart of oil between oil changes like I did with Mobile 1.
andysf 12-28-2006, 10:05 PM Castrol Syntec 5w-50 right now... maybe something thinner next time.
SubaruGenuineParts 12-29-2006, 01:38 PM Castrol Racing Synthetic 10w-60
