what does the exclamation mark in the cluster lights mean? i saw it once while driving and took it easy on it till i parked it. never came on again, but i wasn't sure what it was. any ideas?

it might be the handbrake?

Is it surrounded by a circle? Handbrake or low brake fluid.

Yep its the handbrake.

Just double check the handbrake lever is fully down.
I had this problem when I fitted the Sti v4 dash etc. The 95 lever has a different shroud cover which would catch the centre gearstick console.

i have nothing hooked up to my handbrake switch. so it's not tripping it with the switch anyway.

i was beating on it when driving a friend around. it wasn't to temp yet and i thought it may be something to do with boost(overboost?). since i have no boost gauge on it i have no idea what it's seeing PSI wise. with a tuned ECU, and a fresh swap i thought maybe a leak and too much boost or something bad. brake fluid or E handle problems would be good since it's super simple to fix.

and i looked under the console. it's different, but touches nothing that would short/ground/etc. and cause a light to trigger. it dosen't mount the same as with the drum E-brake setup tho. im not sure what is different yet, so it just sits there around the E handle for now.

The back console, do you mean the centre console surround (gear stick & handbrake)?

yes thats the one. mine is seperate from the front section unlike the 98 OBS i have. OBS seems like it's more of a one piece design. i haven't taken it apart yet to find out where it bolts down. they are different as to where they are fastened to the tranny tunnel, but they should be adaptable to the new design. i just can't figure out how it fastened(95 console). the rear would pinch the e braake cables to the floor if it were in the right spot, even then the hole in the bottom of the consoles tray isn't lined up with any holes!

anyone got pics? i may have old ones of my tunnel w/o anything around it. i may not! i'll find out tho.
