View Full Version : VP Racing M3 Methanol?

M3 Racing Methanol has the highest purity available, but with an extra boost. With special additives, M3 offers a wider range of jetting options, making jetting easier and more consistent. With better tuning and cleaner, more efficient combustion, M3 makes more power than any standard methanol on the market and passes water test as well.

anyone try this yet?

Yes, I am mixing this stuff now, instead of Sunoco Powermist. I haven't seen a whole lot of difference though. The VP is just more convinient for me to get. I have never tried the snow stuff once. I have always mixed my own brew. I have tried wiper fluid once or twice, and it worked alright. I just tried mixing Traxxas 33% nitro in with some 50/50 water meth today. Seemed to work okay, but my butt dyno isn't calibrated enough to tell the difference. I didn't even mix in that much, probably a couple tbsp. You don't need much though.

Wonder how it compares to Snow Performance Boost Juice:

I'm pretty sure there's no comparison between VP Racing M3 Methanol and "Boost Juice"

Where are you getting Sunoco Powermist and/or M3 Methanol? Somewhere local?

Sunoco Powermist I was getting about $30 for a 5 gallon pail at New England Race Gas Inc. And VP I am getting at XXtuning. The VP stuff is a little more though. I guess I save in not having to trek all the way out to Farmington to get the Sunoco.

PowerMist is a company in and of it's self - I buy directly from them www.powermist.com - they're 40 miles from my crib. I bought the HoleShot Methanol but never got to tune for it - motor crapped out.

I did talk to PowerMist about the benefits of running the HoleShot - it only contains slightly more BTU's of energy but burns better.

they advertise the "water test" also:

HOLESHOT METHANOL
For optimum acceleration and mid range punch, a further refined ultra pure methanol with an added kick. A hybrid product caught in the chemical transition between methanol and methyl terterary butyl ether (MTBE, 4%). Extra oxygenation means extra power! This product lowers specific gravity flow requirements, thus making available a wider range of jetting options. The benefits of Holeshot Methanol over regular methanols are:
• Easier, more consistent jetting
• Cleaner, more efficient combustion
• Passes water test

so uhhh, whats the "water test"? My VP M1 mixed with distilled water fine, it did raise the temperature but didn't get cloudy... test passed?

You can call PowerMist and ask'em - I run it straight. I thought the "water test" had something to do with rules in different classes. When I talked to them and told'em what I used their methanol for they said the HoleShot has the potential to make more power and still offer the same "cooling" effects.

hmm wonder how much different it is from the vp m1 meth??

I'm currently running their m1 methanol.

so uhhh, whats the "water test"?

The water test is a simple track side test used to check fuels. You mix the fuel sample with a known volume of water. If the fuel is a pure alcohol the fuel and water will mix completely. If there is any petroleum in the fuel it will separate out and float on top of the water/alcohol mix.

You can get a rough idea of the proportions of petroleum and alcohol based on the amount of volume of the upper layer. The water + alcohol layer will be very slightly less in volume that the sum of the two measured separately since alcohol and water are so strongly attracted to each other.

If you mix 50ml of water with 50 ml of dry alcohol, you will end up with less than 100 ml of mixture, but it is close enough to give you a good idea of the percent of alcohol present.

What they are saying is no non-misible layer will float on the top of the mixture which might cause you to fail a fuel test if your in an alcohol only class.

DJED: Plant City Machine is our most local VP dealer. I'll be picking up a 5gal can of M1 from them eventually. This is their "generic, simple, pure methanol". I'd be curious to find out the price difference between M1 and M3.

I have tuned the same car on both, straight VP meth and 50/50 water with denatured alchohol. No difference in power or detnation prevention. Just my two cents.
