I was pulling out my seats a few months ago and noticed that the paint was flaking off from the seat track due to rust underneath. Today I got into my car and I saw that the entire area is just completely rusted. Anyone else have this issue? I'm going to go to the dealer this weekend and have them take a look, but I'm afraid they're going to give me crap for removing the seat or something. if they do I'll just pull them off, clean them up and repaint them so it's no big deal, but if I can get the dealer to do it that would be even better as it appears that the rust is not only around the bolt locations, but in the middle of the track as well.

This is probably a normal condition and 99% of everyone else's car has the same issue.

I worked at Honda for 5yrs and everytime I had to recover a seat, the springs, rail, and framework had some form of rust. I've taken my 2002 WRX seats out to install Sparco buckets and seen the same thing.

Just my .02

Mine did that on my 02 WRX and 05 Saabaru also. Never brought it in though.

04 WRX Wagon... I had the same issue w/rust on the seat tracks but I wasn't going to go to the dealer with such a minor issue.

I took out my seats, completely masked off everything else, primed and resprayed everything with rustoleum gloss black.

6 months later still no rust.

Also because it bothered me to look at it every time I got in the car, I also painted the inside of the gas door release lever which was rusting as well.

That's what I figured. They must be using a cheap steel because mine are seriously rusted and they just painted over it. I'll just pull the rails in the spring, sand them down to bare metal and repaint them with some rustolium. I'm like you FlyinEyeball, it bugs the crap outta me when I get in the car and see it.

Thanks for the responses guys!!
