View Full Version : Let's talk about FIRE supression! djerickd 12-27-2006, 04:41 PM I'm looking for a good extinguisher to put in the car now that I'm going to be flowing meth. Is there any special kind I should go for. Is an ABC type suitable? Any ideas? DonkeyPunch 12-27-2006, 05:45 PM Here ya go... Although if you aren't mixing over 50/50 water/meth your probably okay, but I guess it is something to think about. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=700+115+%2D197597&D=%2D197597 They sell full install fire suppresion systems. Just search "Fire suppresion" DP djerickd 12-27-2006, 05:48 PM ahh yes I will be doing 50/50, maybe I don't have to worry? Uncle Scotty 12-27-2006, 06:26 PM ahh yes I will be doing 50/50, maybe I don't have to worry? ....nope.....not really......not unless it sprays on the exhaust or turbo somehow djerickd 12-27-2006, 10:05 PM Now if I run 100% meth, will an ABC extinguish the clear burning methanol flames? DonkeyPunch 12-27-2006, 10:19 PM I guess, since Class Bravo fire is a liquid or oil fire. Although, Meth burns without visable flame. Water would probably be the best way to extinguish though. It would just dilute it and hopefully go out. DP adam_m_mcinerney 12-27-2006, 11:13 PM ABC extinguisher is what you need. A water extinguisher works by cooling and would work just as well, but it is heavier and more prone to leaking all over your car. Trust me I have seen plenty leak all over firetrucks bfore. kn0bby8 12-28-2006, 12:31 AM I don't know how helpful an extinguisher will be in a meth fire. When meth is on fire you don't see it. You will only know when your skin is burning off! <--------What the guy at the chemical supplier told me! Any truth? jblaine 12-28-2006, 02:37 PM Put some in a small container (like a petri dish). Get propane torch. Experiment (seriously). Also try maybe with a fine sprayer bottle. Cheaper than just dropping cash on an extinguisher. I have no experience with it, but I've got $5 that says you can't get a 50/50 mix to ignite and then burn :) living4surf 12-28-2006, 10:27 PM i will be using cryofzion's fire sepression kits when i get one of thier c02 systems. wrxdrvr 12-28-2006, 10:51 PM Automatic/Manual fire suppression system, http://www.firefreeze.com/site/page7.cfm . dibblejr 12-28-2006, 11:32 PM As long as you run 50/50 dont worry unless you have your bottle close to the turbo like someone else here has. It is always good to have an ABC ext on board though esp if you are going to track your car, and it may be (is) a requirement at sanctioned events.
