I have a turbo related question, and it's been bugging me for ages because no matter how much searching I do, no matter who I ask, I can't get a definite, clear, consistent or helpful answer.
I have a 1990 Subaru Legacy GT wagon as some of you might know already. It has a 5 speed manual gearbox. It came from Japan too, so it's JDM. Apart from an aftermarket downpipe it has a bone stock factory setup. Hasn't had a manual conversion done to it, it's as is from the factory. EJ20G with an AWIC, 4.111 LSD rear....so on and so forth.

So with that information, what IHI turbo does it have? I'm not interested in what the autos came with, what the USDM models came with, which one has the better spooling turbo, which turbo came with what compressor housing... because everytime I search for it on the internet that's all I end up getting and it drives me insane! :furious: I am only interested in my specific car and my car only, a JDM 1990 Subaru Legacy GT wagon with a 5 speed manual gearbox!

I made an attempt to answer that myself by pulling apart my car but came to a dead stop when I realised I'd have to physically remove the turbo and I really don't have the time, tools and good weather to tackle it.

I have plenty of times, came up with nothing conclusive and final. Just vague and nondefinitive answers that conflicted each other.

its probably a vf-10 its small

you don't need to remove the turbo just the heat shield (maybe) the model is stamped on the side

You've got to be joking!!! I didn't even see those stamped there.

Right, had a look thanks to the picture Jaxx supplied and I have a VF-10. Didn't see the writing there originally because it was so dirty and grimy. How sad knowing I have the smallest turbo put on an EJ engine. The good thing is now I can get gains upgrading to a VF-8 for a lot cheaper than going to a TD05.
