Okay, so I got an REALLY big Front Mount 'cooler.....

I currently run a series 1 EJ20G, with Big ass Exh, (Apexi), and Apexi Power FC...the question is simple, (the answer may not be),....
Do I NEED to retune to suit the larger cooler? Will I see a 'lean' condition based on colder charge air, or can I rely on 'things' working themselves out? I run a boost/TPS switched water spray, (more like a garden hose/pipe), when ambient temps are above 30 deg C. Modified std intake, (still running the airbox). If I disable the cooler spray, do I NEED a retune:confused:
I WILL go std ECU if required--I am looking for longevity--not really performance.
It goes hard enough....for now.

It is a "Very Large" intercooler.....:D

What sort of 'lag' can I expect, if any.....

Want real answers from ppl who've Done It...
Cheers and thanks in advance..

so your switching from a/b/c slant intercooler to a front mount .. dangerous ... probably not .. your lowering your charge temp which should allow you to run leaner or more advance ...your not changing the volume of the o2

that said you should be able to get more power with a retune with the FMIC though

Not an expert here but I'll throw my 2 cents in...

When I changed my intercooler to front mount I didn't re-tune and had no problems at all. Didn't notice any real lag difference either. My intercooler is not huge, just regular greddy front mount.

Do you use a wideband? I didn't have one when I switched intercoolers so I can't tell you if there was a difference.

Yeah what Jaxx said. Cooler air temps means more room for tuning. If you want to get the most out of the upgrade, I would retune. Also, when I upgraded my 400whp gsx to a large fmic, I lost 1-2 psi up top. 27psi, then dropped and leveled to 25psi from 5-8k rpms. But 1-2psi loss isn't bad considering the gains you'll get mid throttle.

Cool, thanks all. I'll bolt it all on and tune it when I can afford it!

Cheers

i put a FMIC on and a tune is a big must in my opinion. with a FMIC you can run a bit more timing down low for spool up and more fuel up top...

<---taking his car to tune in 2 hours :)
