I've spun a rod bearing and a new OEM STi motor is going in. Would you please list off some essential items that should go in at the same time? Not high performance items, but more along the lines of safety margin/longevity items. Here is what I am thinking:
Cosworth oil pump
new OEM oil pickup tube and screen
Hondata intake manifold gaskets

replace all the gaskets with OEM ones, might want to do the timing belt and water pump whilst your down there.

Buy a regular oil pump. No need spending stupid amounts of $$ for a shimmed stock oil pump (Cosworth).
Also, buy the Gasket rebuild kit. Comes with every single gasket/o-ring you can think of to rebuild an engine. Exhaust gaskets, head gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, etc.
Don't have to buy a new oil pickup, just make sure it is very, very, very clean.
Timing belt and timing belt tensioner.
I definitely plan on doing the master gasket set.
should I go with a regular timing belt or the STI timing belt? Also if anyone has the part number for the belt tensioner, that would be great, as I'm having a hard time locating it.

I need to make up a list of the gaskets you will use out of the overhaul kit (If you have a assembled shortblock). 50% of the stuff won't be needed.

Just a helpful FYI on the gasket set (from subarugenuineparts.com):
Mechanical Catalog - 2005 - Subaru - Impreza Engine, Overhaul gasket set, OVERHAUL GASKET SET, All Models, w/Turbo, Impreza - 2.5L, 1999-05 - 2.5L, 1999-05
Part Number: 10105AA590
thank you very much cooter.
Drinkav8: there's a great thread on here somewhere with pics and descriptions of every gasket in the overhaul kit. I wish I had it, I'd link it up.

not really. The only things you won't use will be a few o-rings (3 I think) and the rear main seal.

just out of curiousity, does one also need to change the pulleys and the like that support the accessory belts? tensioners? (Hope you know what i am getting at :o )
SloRice recommended a new timing belt and timing belt tensioner, which I think is a great idea, considering the threads I've seen about those giving people fits. My roommate's 2002 WRX had to get warrantied for the tensioner, it would clack like crazy until the motor warmed up.
