View Full Version : clutch engagement?

I have a 1997 L 2.2.
I installed the trans my self with a new clutch and flywheel. It drove great for the first few months, now it seems like all I have to do is barely let off the clutch for it to start to stall. Or it will begin to engage the clutch. It drives fine ones the clutch is installed, but like I said, all I have to do is lift my foot off the clutch for it to engage.

Thanks,

Greg

Perhaps your clutch cable slipped and needs to be adjusted? Just a guess but an easy thing to try before taking the clutch apart.

I would also suggest checking the clutch cable. Sometimes the bushings on the cable will wear out and tear. I have an ACT pressure plate, so I have had to replace my cable twice since I bought the car in 2002.

okay...i believe i have figured it out, I took a look at the clutch cable, like you guys said, the nut was pretty much at the end of the threads.

I then threaded them down and drove it a few times, its good so far, but it seems like the nut it still loose...any suggestions?

Were the bushings still in good shape?

I would take a pic if I had my car. If you look behind the clutch fork there should be some washers and bushings. It should be easy to tell if the bushings are torn.
