okay, well i know this guy who's a friend of my friend's...and he offered to do my tranny rebuild for me...as long as i get the gearset and pay him some extra cash...well..i was just wondering if the wrx tranny's are difficult to rebuild? well at least for a typical mechanic...should the rebuild with stock gearsets for a wrx be any different than a rebuild for..lets say...a honda with stock gearsets? i just want to make sure that i can have a regular mechanic who has done tranny rebuilds on other cars rebuild my tranny w/o any difficulties.

For a start, you will NEED the subaru service manual. Along with the manual there are special subaru tools required to complete the rebuild. Tolerances must be set perfectly or the box will fail. Hope this helps...

DONT have him build it unless he's done them before. I've seen too many busted tranny stories here that were done by Cousin Jimmy or an uncle who was a "mechanic". Call Gruppe-S as they are localish to you and would be the best place.

Subaru transmissions are much more difficult to rebuild than a honda transmission. Don't let someone do it that's never done one before.
