So when some people found out that I took almost a week to prep my wheels before I mounted they laughed. Well, my first volks, I wanted them protected and I wanted to be able to clean them easily.

I had applied aio, sgx3, poorboys wheel sealant x1 back in late June. No more applications of protectant since then.

I haven't washed my car/wheels since before Thanksgiving and I've gathered quite a bit of brake dust that was kinda 'caked' on since then.
On January 6 I decided I was overdue for a wash and with the spring like weather with temps around 66 I couldn't say no.

This is after just using meg's california gold car wash soap.

:disco:

So the 6 days spent prepping the wheels was well well worth it!
So nya nya to those who laughed. LOL

Nah I don't like the painted calipers look since they're stock. Plus they're not all that 'rusty' ;) I have 4pots to put on come springtime. :)

These are used wheels too from 2 other people. I love how the labels are pretty darn intact as well since I acquired them.

Just a little reminder to clean your summer wheels and get them ready for spring/summer. ;)

Can you enlighten me as to the products you used? IE where you got them, and the actual names/brands? I did a search and couldn't find these products. I tried to PM you but I don't think it went through. Thanks!

edit: Found the products (I didn't see the brand in the posting title), where did you buy them? Crazy $$$ at the vendor I found!

if I clean my wheels can I use this sealant? Or do you have to put it on when it's brand spanking new?

Im a detailer and i still dont see the "nya nya"

i use that poorboys sealant and you must have some stock pads or mild driving because that sealant makes it easier for you to wash the wheels but with an aggressive pad it becomes almost obselete.

I have hawk hps pads on there. As far as mild driving, not really. A couple of Bear Mountain runs, hard city driving. To give you an idea I average 18-19 mpg sometimes depending on how I drive.

They don't stick and regardless of type of pad, brake dust from November to January does add up. I also have the aio/sg on there as well which helps prevent the dust from sticking IMO.

Patrick: Thanks for the comment. That means a lot coming from you. I remember you detailing your baja at WBM and I was like, yup that's him.

(Anyone know how to do the multi quote?)

My volks were used but they were kept in great condition. The clay bar did pick up a lot of grime/dust. I washed, clayed and then washed again before I started applying everything.

So, no you they don't have to be brand new. But like detailing your paint, prep is the key.
