Subaru have a contract clause with Richard that if he won the world championship with them that they have the right to extend his contract. And it seems Subaru/Prodrive want to keep him in the seat which will double there chances of winning the championship next season but also nearly double there drivers payrole.

if he doesn't want to stay, they aren't going to force him for obvious reasons. subaru is probably just using this to get more funds from the pugs.
