View Full Version : Found: a bunch of new 2.5 RS parts in the trash
Does the name Sean Hahn ring a bell?
Did you lose a bunch of new parts for your 2.5 RS? Had any stolen?
A buddy of mine found about $2,000 of unused parts in the trash with Sean's name on a box. They're available for recovery now if you can tell me the story of their loss, and what parts are in the bundle. He already called the police and they didn't have any reports of parts theft.
If no one steps up, they'll be on sale here soon.
Impreza88 01-14-2007, 09:48 PM what kind of parts?

Where did you find something like this?
My buddy found the parts in the trash at his storage lot. He is a mechanic and currently runs a mobile tire sales and installation business, so he recognized the value of the parts. He called the cops, then rescued them when the cops gave him the green light.
He showed them to me, and they are indeed brand new and in the box.
post this on RS25.com as well

Joe, I'm not a member at RS25.com... if you could post a link to this thread over there it would be appreciated.
We'll give it a few more days, then put the stuff up for sale.
Seeing StaRS 01-15-2007, 01:57 PM Sure thing man...I'll post it up in the Mid-A

That's pretty crazy, but good on your buddy for trying to track down the rightful owner first.

Most def +1
Good people still exist
adam_m_mcinerney 01-16-2007, 02:56 PM Where at in the VA are you. Cuz I can't imagine there are that many Sean Hahn out there. Anyways, seriously good karma is coming your way for this.
silverF4turbo 01-16-2007, 03:22 PM Damn wishful thinking that I could find a bunch of new STI parts in the trash some day
Anyway your bud is a stand up guy
Porter 01-16-2007, 06:24 PM If the box is a dealer box with the guy's name on it, then they were special order parts. Most of the dealers mark the parts box with the customer's name.
Try calling some local dealers to see if he is a customer, and have them call him to notify.
Ghomer1 01-16-2007, 08:40 PM Wowow
JCity 01-16-2007, 09:04 PM thats crazy finding BNIB parts in a trash can ! ...
kudos to the finder for doin the right thing ...
Impreza88 01-17-2007, 08:46 PM any luck finding the owner yet?
Blakjack 01-18-2007, 07:54 PM Thanks to HOV for posting up here and thanks for all the positive feedback for trying to find the rightful owner - Just trying to do the right thing.
I got in touch with the guy who owned the parts, apparently he was cleaning out his storage unit and didn't feel like ebaying any of em. He'd done a 2.5RS - STI conversion and these parts were leftovers. He's a mechanic at Ferrari which jives with the clearly labeled boxes, the fact most parts have all the bolts you need to install them threaded on halfway and everything is in good shape. Can always tell a good mechanic when you see his work...
So, without further ado - here's what I've got. Not trying to make a killing here (esp since I found it in the trash) but I know fair market value for used parts. I'll be taking some pics once I gauge interest. Hopefully this is ok since I am a new member - if not HOV and I agreed that he can be the intermediary.
RH & LH Headlight assembly (in original factory box, indistinguishable from new – but I can tell it ain’t)
Mass air flow sensor
Foglights (small newer ones) (same OEM story, indistinguishable from brand new)
JC sport cold air intake (Brand spank new in the box, blue color)
Airbox and resonator assembly w/K&N filter
Front shocks and springs (Bushings in good shape, overall good shape – box marked 60,000 miles) - Potentially sale pending
Rear shocks and springs (Same story) Potentially sale pending
4 Drive axles in OEM boxes, definitely used but in excellent shape
K&N Hi-flow air filter (new in box) part # RU-3480
JBL 6X9 speakers (New in box) part # GT645 (70 watt output per speaker , 140 watt max) box looks dated but speakers are still in their plastic.
**WRX STI** Shifter linkage (complete) with new bushings - marked 26,000 miles.
**Volvo (of some sort) overbore kit (head gaskets) for what appears to be a 2.2L - marked "No longer produced" 2 sets
One side note - I just bought a '97 Legacy Outback GT (2.5) with a bad diff/clutch packs/viscous coupling (have yet to diagnose it, couldn't say no for $300)- I'm willing to trade parts (assuming their worth is sufficient) for the whole diff/case/clutch packs once I diagnose the problem (just bought it today) and would be willing to trade parts for help from someone who has dealt with this before. I'm flexible here, don't be afraid to ask.
I reserve the right to sell these parts to anyone locally at any time if you have not paid yet, once you have paid it is yours. With that said I will honor any gentlemen's agreement we have made.
I'm happy to answer any question by PM, phone or in person (Sterling VA).
I've been lurking since HOV posted up the original post, and this forum prompted me to buy the Legacy - I've always loved Scooby's and I can't wait to start to work on it. I look forward to searching (first), posting often and generally becoming part of this community.

AcquaCow 01-18-2007, 09:24 PM ^^^ based on our emails earlier, and what I just read, sounds like these parts are from an 04+ 2.5RS.
That would be the main thing behind swapping the headlights. You can only swap the sti headlights into the 04+ bodies.
I'll have to read up here tonight/tomorrow and see if I can use those struts or not. I may just have to source 01 RS suspension instead =P
Thanks,

Do these coming with the wiring and mounting stuff too? I might be interested.
Blakjack 01-19-2007, 10:45 AM The boxes of parts were all labeled "'98 2.5 RS" The headlights were not labeled at all, looks like they were purchased new and never installed. I'll leave the deciphering of what that could mean up to you guys.
The guy who knew the original owner said he had a '98 and had done the STI conversion, so it looks as if they are probably '98 parts - don't let the foglights be the determining factor on the model year of these parts, I'll post up pics this weekend.
Blakjack 01-19-2007, 10:46 AM I'll check on the foglights wiring/mounting stuff and post a pic. Now I gotta buy a digi cam ;)

A 98 would explain the small foglights...they had smaller ones.
I'll definitely go for the stock suspension then...

Rice & Gravy 01-19-2007, 10:59 AM Ah, ok. Yeah, the '98 would have the smaller ones and won't work for me.
SleekSubyChick 01-19-2007, 05:38 PM What I wanna know is, what the jinkies was ur buddy doing, in the trash where he found this stuff, in the first place?
Dumpster Diving 101?
AcquaCow 01-20-2007, 04:43 AM I've got a buddy that could use one or two of the axles...
He's got some torn boots and replacing the axles is cheaper than repairing the boots =P
Can you hold them for me too?
Maybe I can buy the suspension/axles in a package deal?
I live in Sterling as well, so pick-up is cake :)

state 01-20-2007, 11:23 AM forgive my newb-ness, but will the CAI work for an 02? does anyone know?
Blakjack 01-23-2007, 12:47 PM Foglight comes with just the connector - turns out I only have one now.
AcquaCow, let's get together and you can take a look at what I've got, my storage unit is in Sterling as well...
James - I was dumping my trash, saw the characteristic OEM boxes, saw a fresh looking part sticking out and being inquisitive by nature... I don't hesitate a second to salvage something that just happens to be dirty or in the trash, some of my best tools and parts were thrown away by someone to be picked up by me.
Anyone else interseted email me at yzf.blakjack@gmail.com, I can't post pics yet as I'm still a virginal newbie.
Blakjack 01-23-2007, 12:49 PM Sweet, guess I can now!
