View Full Version : Gauging Interest - 1995 L Coupe - Milw. CHEAP

Hi all,

So I'm just gauging if anyone might be interested in a cheap but decent Subaru. I've been itching for a wagon for some time and there are two 2002 TS wagons in my price range for sale right now and I'm probably gonna go take a look at them this week. Dunno for sure if I'll buy, I guess it depends on what kind of pricing I can get. I guess after 7 years with mine, I'm kinda getting bored and need a change. I'd like more cargo room too since my boyfriend drives a coupe too and we can't haul nuthin'.

That leaves the question what would I do with my current car if I bought a newer one. So I thought I'd throw out a line here and see if anyone might be remotely interested in an old L for a winter "beater", teenager car, or project car.

1995 L AWD 1.8L Automatic
112,000 miles
Dark Green
Minor body flaws (a few dents/scratches)
Crack in the windshield
Needs work - hydraulic lash adjusters and probable oil pump.
Just had Tim Sanderson change out all the fluids, plugs, and o2 sensor.
No real mods to speak of - cat back exhaust and Eibach springs
Power Mirrors, Kenwood CD player, A/C still works, interior is pretty clean - no holes in upholstery.

I'm checking on part pricing for the work it needs (Tim you might hear from me soon here :) ) and would be willing to fix its issues before sale. LOL, but with that done, I might keep her.

Admittedly the maintenance on this thing hasn't always been stellar, and she's a bit noisy right now, but so far reliable. Starts fine no matter how cold, handles well.

As she is right now, I'd be looking for around $1200-1500. If I fix what needs fixing, likely more in the $2,000 area. Either way, a decently cheap car for anyone who needs one or wants one to beat up.

Drop me a line if you might know anyone interested... if nobody, then I'll see if the dealer will take her on trade.

Oh, and I'll try to post some pics...

lemme know if neal doesn't take it... I have a nice 2.5L/MT drivetrain that would sit nicely in there.

Oh... believe me I thought about that too. But I need the cargo space these days, so a wagon would be better for me. I think a 2.5L would be a lovely improvement!

1995 L...
Pre OBDII
Stock AWD in place.
Automatic?! Well.. That's the first thing we rip out then. ;)
Lightest of the Impreza series next to a Brighton.
And its green.
Wish I had money/time for a project like this again. :(

Oh yeah, Tim... I've been eyeing a wagon for about 5 years now. I love my Subi and I couldn't bear to leave "The Family".

Three different guys at the dealer tried to convince me to buy a Certified Honda today(yeah, it was a Honda dealer - Wilde. Ugh.). Hmm... gee. You couldn't be trying to sell me a Honda for all those sales incentives and kickbacks could you? They even tried to tell me that the bank wouldn't finance the Subaru because the resale value wasn't very high, but they could do a Honda because it was worth more. Funny... when the salesguy left his desk, he was dumb enough to leave his inventory sheet with a listing of... hmmm... HONDAS that he was going to try and sell me. He circled on that was almost double the price of the Subaru. But wow, amazingly I guess the "bank" would totally borrow me the money for a more expensive car somehow. I especially like how they told me the bank wouldn't finance the Subaru, but when I insisted, NOW they have to go back and give the financing to the bank and get back to me tomorrow. They never even really checked! :furious: That really ticked me off! Just because I'm female doesn't mean I was born yesterday. I AM a purchaser for a Fortune 500 corporation... negotiating is what I do all day long! Now I'm just going to go for the jugular.

Besides, let's see... I think I'll drive a Civic with the license plates "Subi Ru". Carlos Mencia says: "Dee dee deeee!"

So I'm going to a different dealer tomorrow. Maybe I'll get more respeckt. Lemme tell ya, if I decide to buy the one I saw today... after what they pulled tonight, the price of the car is going down, make no mistake. And I am sooo not giving them my trade.

Ok... rant over. :D *sigh* They got me all riled.

Anyway, thanks guys for the interest and for taking me seriously. I will be looking at the other wagon tomorrow and should know if I'm buying before the weekend. I'll see if I can snap some more better photos tomorrow.

Nighty Night!
Michelle

2 things:

1. if this isn't sold contact me asap as I am without a car currently.

2. If it does sell, I have an entire manual swap including pedals for the new owner. :)

Well, I'm off of work now to go see the other wagon... I'll know more later on. I'm also going to take some good pics today with all the sunshine.

Neal called first dibs, but if he passes on it, does anybody have a problem with downshift having next shot? I know the rest of you are interested too, but might be nice to help a carless brotha out. :)

More soon!

Welp,

Things are looking good so far to get my "new to me" Subi. They're just finalizing the finacing and we're dickering last minute on the final price of the car, but it looks like I might actually buy it! Yay!

So... I'll keep things posted, but it looks like my car will be for sale after all. The dealer would give me $1500 for it and allow me to keep my rims and new tires (I'll be swapping them for the steelies on the newer car - which has a still decent set of tires on it). So... speak up if you're still interested so I know for sure who is all on my "list".

Dylan, I dropped you a PM since you have "dibs" being the man without a car right now. :)

No problem Dylan... glad she's going to a good home. Did she treat you ok on the drive home? She does clean up pretty nice... No wonder the dealer wanted me to trade her so badly.

Now just make sure she is taken good car of! :) I was a little sad when you drove away. That was my first Subie. Kinda like your first love, she'll always have a special place in your heart, ya know? LOL

Enjoy!
