hey guys ,
the other night my hazard were on , and i hit my alarm key to arm my car and i noticed that the hazards stopped workin, so i went back into my car to hit the button again , but no blinking occurred. so i started me car and checked my turn signals and also nothing. I checked all my fuses and all is good, so some guy told me that its my flasher. i took it to my mechanic to take a look at it and first of all , subaru's , at least mine doesnt, have flashers , they have a hazard , tun signal module. besides the point , after playing with a bunch of wires under the dash , i blew a fifty amp fuse , but not having one, i replaced it with a forty fuse. so my car started right back up , but this time my check engine light is flashing on and off, and i thought that that was unusual , cuz usually it just stays on. i resetted my battery and still i have this flashing light and its pissin me off, can anyone help me .. thanks

I always thought the flashing check engine lights were bad. Usually they mean get your car to the dealer ASAP. Usually for misfires or other such occurances. Take it to the dealership or somewhere that can read your ECU codes.

When my CEL came on they asked if it was flashing or solid. Apparently the solid ones they just wait for them to go away, as it's usually something stupid like a loose gas cap. Flashing ones warrant a trip to the dealer though.
But if you blew a 50a fuse, you did something wrong. I mean really wrong. I'd venture to say you've got an electrical gremlin (not AMC gremlin) taking up residence in your car now. Get thee to a nunnery, erm, dealership soon and have them take care of it.

you blew a 50 AMP main fuse...i am curious how you did this. Sounds like your factory secuitry went bad.

man you have big problems... cause you fiddled when you had small problems and your mechanic is .... not very well informed ....
(an idiot, sorry) subarus have flashers and are pretty cheap from what i have seen... it is underneath the steering wheel column WAAAAAAAAY back under the dash righ beside a little blue box and two other black ones... about 1.5 x 1 inch.... you can't take it out with taking out the other four but you can unplug the harness... bring it to the dealer it is a warrenty replacement... if they won't it only costs 50 cdn.... about 35 bucks for you... your flashing CEL light is because your wiring has either been unpluged...or you have a short in a very bad place... gimme some pics of what you did... maybe the rest of us can help... but bring to dealer .. we have flashers! and don't let the dealer convince you its the mechanism in the steering wheel for the signals... its not (most probably)..!

HOk i wasn't positive but IIRC EVERYONE still uses flashers...it's the most simple designin the world and CHEAP as hell.
Jeremy
well i didn't want to sound like an ass... but that mechanic is partially responsible for this guy messing up his car because he didn't do some research or even look under the dash... also... HndaTch627 i think your right a lot of cars have flashers... but i have seen some lux cars... like lexus and benz with no flashers i think.. dun remember.. not my cars hehehe

Hey guys, i want to thank you all, cuz you have been alot of help. The only problem about taking my car to my dealer is that we dont get along. Reason being is that they have royally screwed me twice and last time i was there it was just bad, the manager was i prick , trying to charge me 320.00 dollars to fix my bulb harness cuz they melted and all they did was splice some wires, and after me telling them that i wasn't goin to pay reason also being that they fixed it without consulting me and telling me the price , they bought it down to 100.00 dollars. i have never been treated with so much disrespect in my life, i was cursed at and so was my friend, but i still have yet to report them to SOA and better business buruea.
i am gonna try to find another dealer if its possible and what warranty would this problem be under cuz i have more that 36k miles on it.
should be fine bruno... take some picts... please... we can help.... i know the underside of the dash pretty good... since i've been messing with it for a while too... but where di you get you alarm installed... is it factory..?

i got the clifford solaris with remote start as my alarm.
ill try to take some pics
the mechanic basicall pulled every wire that was attached to the bottom plastic peice where the fog light switch is and the cruise control. and my alarm light and car jacking thing is there too and by car jacking device , its a switch where i program a code that i have to punch in to start my car so it wont start or get stolen.

okay now i haven't tried this on my soccyb yet but on just about ever other car i have toyed with if the flasher has just gone bad the hazards still work...i would look for a blown hazard fuse...get a wiring diagram...that or a loose connector @ the hazard switch.
jeremy
yes.... it might work.... but sadly on the scooby... when the flashers don't work... the hazards don't either... try tapping on the relay that i described... is way up and in there.... but try it... it it works then it stops working again... you had the same failure as i did...
