Well...after my accident on the 18th a bit has happened.

First of all, here is a link to the pictures I took.

http://www.moesrealm.com/img/neil/

The pictures don't show the whole story. There is a ton of rippling along the passenger side of the car, even up to the roofline.

But none of that matters 'cause the car IS getting repaired...to the sum of $6500 (possibly more). That means a new door, new side skirt (which they will paint for me to match the other I painted) and new rear wheel. They will push out all the dents, repaint everything that needs it, and straighten the car on a jig back to "factory specs".

Honestly I am blown away that they are going to fix it! That is amazing....and the good news.

The bad news...I don't want the car anymore. Sure I love it but now my insurance is going to skyrocket. The repairs are guaranteed for as long as I own the car which doesn't help resale value. Plus if I was to sell it I would be WAY under on my loan (maybe not WAY under...car is worth about $16K, loan has about $18K on it). But all this ads up to me keeping the car (unless some rich cool person wants to buy it!) :D

Soooooooo...I'm happy and sad. 15 working days to repair (no work on weekends!). Bleah.

Oh man, were you hurt ?
Too bad you can't total your car, so you don't have to pay any $$
for repair right ? And main thing, whose fault ?? 15 days to fix it only ? They are fast.....~ are you going to get after-market side-skirts ??? And be sure do the alignment check up~!!
bye bye

Neil -

Glad you are okay. Did I read right in your original post that your Dad was in the car too? If so, glad he's okay too. At least you didn't get t-boned. Looked like a good angle to get hit (just a slight angle). Good for you bad for your car's body.

Hang in there...

Yeah...no injuries so that is all good.

As far as the repairs go...I'm not going to let them give me the car until I feel it is PERFECT...and I mean PERFECT! I kept that car beautiful all the time...and I expect it to be the same when it returns.

I'm not going to have them put on any aftermarket stuff...

One thing though...2 replies...over 100 views? That's nutty. People don't have much to say eh?

select a body shop that would replace the entire right rear quarter panel outer skin rather that 'fixing' the massive dent.

I had the option to send the car to any shop I wanted. Allstate would send an inspector to wherever the car is. But...if it goes to an Allstate approved shop then the repairs are guaranteed for as long as I own the car. I do like the idea of a new warranty of sorts on the car. If I still have the cars 10 years from now and the paint is starting to bubble where the damage was...Allstate will fix it (no matter who my current insurance company is). Kinda hard to turn that down!

So when I get the car back I am going to be a RAGING A-HOLE about the repair job. If there is so much as a NICK on the car it's going back. I will accept nothing less than a 100% return to factory specs (which is what the guarantee is). If the work is less than perfect, if I hear a single squeak or rattle, it will go back. That is my right.

I do know they will replace the door, side skirt, and wheel. Hopefully they will replace that panel too. We shall see!

Well the estimate has increased to $7176.93. I had them fax me a copy of it...and I'll list the parts that are being replaced.

Rear Wheel, alloy 16" RS Silver $278.00
RT outer rocker pnl RS $95.05
RT outer reinf $130.88
RT rocker molding front $130.15
RT rocker molding rear $83.02
RT rocker molding protector $12.30
RT door shell $416.58
RT body side mldg $75.33
Dam $18.17
RT quarter panel RS $365.25
RT body side mldg $64.57
RT wheel opng mldg $53.80
Fuel door $46.87
RT dam upper $8.62
RT dam lower $6.42
RT lower qtr trim RS gray $327.62
LT dam upper $8.62
LT dam lower $6.42
Nameplate "SUBARU" $56.95

The rest of the cost is labor, painting, frame pulling (eek!) and wheel stuff (4 wheel align).

From the list it looks like they are replacing my rear quarter panel...which I don't understand 'cause that whole side is just one piece...or is it? Does this mean I will have a seam on the side? Is it not one piece...and the seam is hidden? I don't get it.

Ha...not many replies but a lot of views so I assume people want to know this crap. :D
