View Full Version : HID question
iDrivaWRX 01-24-2007, 12:08 AM i read the post thing about the FAQs and about the bulbs. i just want to know what you guys have/recommend. i was thinkin about 6000K but i like the BMW look. i know they have 4300K but will 6000K look better? what are your opinions?
Thanks, Chris
Mulder 01-24-2007, 12:15 AM The "BMW look", or "Audi look", or whatever, is the result of the projector optics when the HIDs are seen at certain angles. All those OEM HIDs use 4300K bulbs, and if you view them from straight on they are actually white not blue. Attempting to duplicate that "look" with higher temperature bulbs will only cost you light output and increase the glare.
jvcjbl 01-24-2007, 12:19 AM I was reading somewhere on a forum of a BMW that got "8000k upgraded bulbs"... that is retarded
LightWerkz 01-24-2007, 12:47 AM 6000k or 8000k is a true downgrade in performance.
You will never truely "replicate" the look unless you have a nice set of projectors.
This can be seen on my old setup...
bulb temperature - 4300k
You can clearly see in this pic the light might even look yellow, however its more of a white in person.

Nice hint of blue at the cutoff point...

It depends where you catch it, back to white again...

iDrivaWRX 01-25-2007, 01:15 AM anyone have any night pics of the HIDs? im lookin at 4300K vs 6000K. i found a deal of $280 with a 2 year warranty direct from japan. anyone know any other places?
LightWerkz 01-25-2007, 01:19 AM I suggest you do an oem sti hid kit, h7 adapters, and philps d2s bulbs.
but hey, thats just me.
iDrivaWRX 01-25-2007, 01:45 AM how much? since youre a vendor do you have a deal for me?
iDrivaWRX 01-25-2007, 01:52 AM i dont get it. i was lookin at some vendors prices and all and some say they last 2500-3000 hours, or 3-5 years on usage. WRX has daytime running lights, so does that mean my bulbs will be dead within a year??

you shouldn't be running day time lights with HID's. if you go with this retro, you won't be running drl.

a lot of HID companies that make rebased bulbs aren't around for 3-5 years, they make a lot of money and then close up shop, so when your crap dies in a year you're left out in the cold.
that and mostly they're in other countries and don't have to honor your warranty due to some international law or lack of it.
Drive4Ever 01-25-2007, 10:01 AM If you can wait, I will send some comparison pictures between 4300K & 6000K on a JDM HID headlamp to LightWerkz sometime this weekend.
