The mountains received 100 inches of snow since last thursday, and we have a winter storm warning stating 1-2 feet in the upper elevations and 6-12 inches in the valley. :p

All in all, the weather is gooooooooooooood :D

Man I miss the Snow and my skiing. :(

anyway, last time I spoke with him, he mentioned importing glass from AU. I don't know if he's in the process, or if he will soon, or if he's dropped it. I can't remember what he said :)

Thats right. I forgot about the import of the back window. That was a long time ago if I am correct. Well, if you are out there N.U., and you still check the board, let us know of your project.

I seem to remember you keeping some of your mods hush hush until completion. A little peak couldn't hurt though, could it :D

100% ready to go, sans glass still. I can get the STi rear glass with the hole from the UK through one of our fantastic vendors, but crating and shipping plus the price of the glass puts it over $1300. By comparison, the bits for my turbo kit have cost me about $900 thus far, with a total probable cost around $1500 (gotta love cast-off brand-new parts :)). Thus the delay. I need to get a piece of the rear glass (just a small piece) to see if one of the local guys' shop can sucessfully drill the back window. That being the case, it will be done this spring I'd say ;).

how about the wiper and motors and other bits for the rear... where would i get this... i NEED this....

also can we put it lower and hack up the trunk...?

Everything you need can be had *fairly* easily. You cannot put it in the trunk lid- well, you can, but you will never be able to open it again ;)!

There are a few glass shops here in town that have diamond drill bits and can drill the glass without cracking it. They will replace the glass if they crack it and all for the cost of drilling the hole- like $50 I think. Also, NU let me know if you need an extra piece of the back glass. I can get them for like $50 + Shipping. Just email me.

The fear is of it cracking after the drilling... I'm sure it will drill okay ;). I just need a small piece (like 12" x 12") to test it out, but even $50 and shipping could be doable ;).

North U can you help me out help... how do i get this stuff... and how much... but in the trunk part,,, i didn't mean in the actual trunk i meant putting a crease in the trunk and then drilling in the base of the window where the metal is and attaching it there... so we wouldn't have to drill the glass.... stick every thing on the base adn the trunk would probably need to be modified to let the wiper sit correctly when the trunk is closed....

Well, why dont you just drill the hole then? I dont mean to sound mean, but I'm missing something! Is the glass essentially the same, but with a hole in it? Do you need measurements for where the hole is? :confused:

Oh, and hows that heated mirror mod coming along? We had a nice little ice storm up here yesterday....the wiper and heated mirrors could come in handy!!

gooseman, the problem is that it's not that easy to drill into these windows. There's a good chance that they would crack, even if it were done by a professional.

Oh! Well, is it really that hard to drill into glass? :confused: Cant you make a small pilot hole and then slowly ream the poper sized hole? Hmmm.....A rear wiper would be the COOLEST!!!

I have a different thought. I find rear wipers utterly pointless. I guess it all depends on where you live though.

boy i need the rear wiper mod... theres so much crap snow on the back and when your driving in muddy snow that window gets splatter sometimes... pisses me off... that they had the rear wiper on the foreign GC8s and none on ours....

You can't put it in the trunk lid ;). Everyone who has asked me this or is going to ask me this, go out to your cars and look at the trunk lid :). I'll wait..

Wow! Back already :)? Okay, see what I mean when I say it can't be done that way? If you drill out the trunk for the motor and wiper arm A) it will be off-angle to work at all and B) you won't be able to open the trunk ever again. You lift the lid, the wiper arm bends to an extent, and then it snaps right off ;). HOK's idea of creasing the trunk lid so that it fits more or less around the motor arm could work with a custom bracket of some nature, but I don't think it's any easier nor do I want to worry about it leaking. The wiper assembly has weatherstripping, and I know the regular method works because it's in 1000's of STi's overseas :). As for part numbers and such- they aren't up online yet, and probably won't be until I have a mods page on it. I'm not sure of what most of them are right now anyway :lol:. Gooseman, the problem with the glass is not the drilling itself. The rear glass is tempered- problem is that tempered glass with a big hole in it (that wasn't there when the heat-treating was done) has a tendency to crack. The 12"x12" piece of Subaru glass was to determine if that would happen with Subaru Tempered Glass (everybody's is a bit different). All will become apparent in time grasshoppers :D.
