Cant afford a retrofit eh? And you know you want some more color out of those projectors you have in your car, but you know switching to higher temperature bulbs will only decrease light output....what will you do? :confused:

I knew all along the 06 sti projectors had some potential, however I had trouble finding a lens that would fit properly and removing the stock lenses was hard enough! Little did I know the answer sat right under my nose...TSX clear lense swap, as seen in my latest USDM Bugeye retrofit.

Now not only does it make the cutoff line more colorful, but it makes it ALOT sharper, and more intense. Now these projectors will have some crazy flicker coming down the road, and the light wont appear to be yellow any longer! :banana: I made a custom spacer and this type of swap can be done within an hour if you know what your doing ;)

Both the halogen and hid '06 models can do this swap. I mean both sets are pretty much identical, even though I havent tried it on a halogen, im 99% sure it will produce the same results.

Cost? PM me if you are intrested.

I will let the pictures speak for themselves....Crazy what a peice of glass can do eh? :disco:

So, what would this mean for those of us with halogen projectors? Would this be a viable alternative to a retro, but instead the D2S->H7 adapter, since the lens is an HID lens?

LightWerkz
01-28-2007, 10:20 PM
Like I said I believe the result will be the same as the d2s versions as long as you get the h7 > d2s adapter and run d2s bulbs and oem ballast/ignitor combo.

I'm confused. Don't the halogen projectors also need a TSX reflector on the backside of the light? I'm not up to date on the differences between h7 and ds2.

LightWerkz
01-29-2007, 12:47 AM
you can use the d2s bulbs inside the halogen ones, swap the lens, and get an h7-> d2s adpater and you will be good.

Let us know when/if you try it on the halogen. Is it easy to source an adapter, STI bulbs and ballasts?

Handsdown

i'd really like to see some pictures of these projectors outputs next to a halogen H7's output, and then a halogen H7 with the D2S and adapter plate... caesar, do you have anyone local that has a set of H7 06 wrx lights laying around... cuz i have a set but i'm not exactly close by...

Assuming the halogen's work out, is it easy to obtain just lens without buying the whole projector assembly? Would you sell just the lens?

Thanks

I will let you know when I try it out on a halogen...

Not that hard to source out the adapters, but the ballasts might be a pain.

I dont have any halogen laying around, if I did I would have tried it to give you guys 100% confirmation.

You cannot obtain the lense without buying the whole projector setup.

After you use the lenses the projectors are worthless....so you just gotta pay to play.

Mechie3

Is there a benefit to using just the lenses and not the whole projector setup (besides the minimal trimming required)? Almost seems to me that if you're paying for the whole deal, might as well use it (for the halogens at least, STI's get the easy end here!).

LightWerkz
01-29-2007, 05:25 PM
The benifit is that its easy, for me and for most other people who have knowledge on how to take apart headlamps. Its cheaper for the customer, and faster. There is no trimming, its basically " plug and play"

Im curious, how is the spread and distance on these? Similar to the TSX I presume?

LightWerkz
01-29-2007, 05:41 PM
Its hard for me to say when I havent taken a full out comparison of both, but I think I can safely say that the tsx's is wider and more intense.

This is merely a relatively cheap upgrade for stock..

are there any other clear lens that would work with 06 sti projector?

LightWerkz

You wont know until you try right?

S2k is another good choice, but good luck finding those projectors, even if you do youll be paying $400 for some lenses LOL.

^:lol: LAWL!!!!

seriously... purple is the worst output for HID systems, it loses the most light and is actually dimmer than halogen.

not to mention it's annoying as hell.

zkw makes a projector with a large lens. i know it goes in teh TL but i don't think it fits the tsx/sti size. i could be wrong.

Hey Caesar, very interesting! I've got a set of 06 STI projectors on my desk. Still waiting to re-glue my headlights together also..

Think the output is the same with 06 STI projectors with TSX lenses vs TSX projectors installed ? Width / distance ?

Do the TSX lenses fit perfectly into the 06 STI projector housing or are special spacers required?

good work! lol!

TL is a lot bigger than the TSX..

So if ZKW=TL and TSX=STi, and TL=/=TSX, the that would make ZWK=/=STi

Are you dumb? It wont fit..

ZKW=TL=3.1" OD
TSX=S2k=STi=2.8" OD

3.1"=/=2.8"

Bringing this back to life. Do you think you could do the washer mod to this setup with the STi projector w/ TSX clear lense? That cutoff line is pretty colorful already. I really want the flicker though!!!

LightWerkz

thats what this setup is, the STi projector with a TSX lens.

Caesar, did you put washers on all 4 posts or just the bottom 2 or just the top 2? Also, how did you get the stock lenses out? You made it sound difficult in your orignal post.

You just need to put 2 washers on the bottom of each projector. So, 1 washer under 1 left bolt+1 washer right bolt per projector.

Thats all I did, gives me a great flicker/color effect while driving =) I love my retrofit.

Caesar, have you ever tried to use the washer mod on the STi lense's??? I wonder if you can get any decent color or cutoff.
