Been kind of wanting the rumble out of my 2.2 OBS, and I searched and found that many people are/were satisfied with eBay knock offs

I'm guessing these are it?

to be honest i would look around on the boards first for the real thing. I picked mine up used for 170 and its as good as new.

Take a peek under your car. Single port has 1 runner coming from head, and a dual port looks like the pic you posted.

clarification: EJ22 motors up through '96 were dual port. '97 was phase II EJ22 (otherwise known as single port)

so you're '96 EJ22 is dual port.

i was just reading the ad, it says its for the 93-97 1.8L and the 95 ONLY 2.2

What gives? If this really wont work on my 96 couldnt I just use the ones for the 2.5?

don't buy it man i made the mistake when i had my old rs and the freakin thing had holes where the weld was supposed to be. so i sent it back and they sent me another one and it still had a leak in it. believe me you'll get what you pay for. if you go cheap you get cheap. if you want specifics on where the cracks and the holes were just pm me. buy the real thing. you'll be happier. and trust me i ordered them from the same company. its a hassle. to get your money back

are you talking about your wrx or about a rs header you bought

because diff products diff results

dual port headers for the most part work on any dual port subaru. (n/a for n/a application of course, lol)

one for a '98 2.5RS should work. or get one that says it works with a '95 Legacy. '95 legacys didn't come with the 2.5 yet and the EJ22 in that is EXACTLY the same as your '96. It's weird that subaru made a revision of EJ22 from the '94 one and it ran for only two years before they designed a new head for it.

I actually ordered one of the knock offs on ebay. It looks fine but I didn't check mine first and I got the dual when I needed the single. I am trying to resale the dual for $150 plus shipping. Make me an offer if you have dual ports. If you have the single ports, the cheapest borla one I found is at www.prostreetonline.com for $274.19 The part number for the borla single port is 17199. I hope this helps. -K-

Look under your car and make sure your car is indeed a dual port.

clarification: EJ22 motors up through '96 were dual port. '97 was phase II EJ22 (otherwise known as single port)

so you're '96 EJ22 is dual port.

This is wrong. I own a 1996 legacy 2.2 (manufacture date of july 1995) and it is a single port.

And I'm 21 with a wagon. It's great. Lower insurance, less attention from cops, and a backseat that is capable of more than just being used to move stuff.

I guess they were doing a "phase out" of the dual port heads, because all of the information I have and researched said that the '96 was still dual port.

interesting.

Yeah it is my belief that they began phasing out midyear of 1995. Alot of part numbers changed around there despite being identical parts. My car is a strange hybrid with hydraulic lash adjusters (which are only found in dual ports normally) but with single port heads. It makes life difficult because even when the parts department pulls my vin, they say the change is in july of 95 and they often don't know which parts I need.

I just wanted to warn him before he spends money when it takes two seconds to look under and check. If the pipe stays the same diameter up to the heads, single port. If it bulges near the head, dual port and you're good to go.

yeah... and the same goes for phase I and phase II EJ25 motors in '99 right?

for what it is worth... single port EJ22 heads use the same cam style as EJ25 sohc motors. so if you bought a cam for your single port EJ22 that was mean't for an sohc EJ25 it will fit. but not in the older dual port EJ22 motors.

afaik the single port head uses the same diameter intake and exhaust valves as well.
