Tomorrow my GF and I are going to look at a Auto 2.5 RS. It has 49000 miles on it. What things should we especially keep our eyes out for. ANy particular problems that are common on these? Also I am curious how the Automatic tranny is on these. Any help greatly appreciated.

Since each model year had their own little "quirks" it really does depend.

MY98 had issues with oil leaks in the CV boots (due to "thin" oil), if 5MT, clutch chatter (varying model years), some of the later models had issues with the o2 sensor. Also do a check for a rattling sunroof, slow passenger side window. The Impreza is not unlike any other car in that you should be mindful of checking for overspray (if the car has been in an accident), service records, and all the standard "kick the tires" type of inspections.

Personally, I have the 5 speed and love it but the auto seems to take a lot away from the car. If you can drive a manual skip the auto, you will be a much happier camper in the long run. Plus again what year.
