Impreza +5%
Forester -18%
Maybe more rave reviews of the Forester, like the one today here (http://www.freenewmexican.com/news/56250.html), will help revive Forester sales.

even after this summer, i think forester sales are gonna struggle until the redesign.. you have the all new CRV and RAV4 out.. its gonna be a tough year and a half for the forester

Sales are down by 25%. Typically, SOA sells about 16,000 units per month.

Mad City GT 02-01-2007, 03:20 PM Unless I'm missing something here, it appears that they sell more Legacy wagons than any other model. This would seem to undermine the rumor that they are going to discontinue the Legacy wagon. Why would they discontinue their most popular line?

The Legacy Wagon number includes the Outbacks sold, and there are far more Outbacks sold than Legacies. Of the 4022 sales listed for Legacy Wagon, 3880 of them (96%) were Outbacks.
Kostamojen 02-01-2007, 03:54 PM Domestic sales went up but Japanese sales went down... Interesting.
The interesting thing is the inventory is so much smaller this year.

IE only 142 legacy wagons sold in January... Down from 382 legacy wagons last year in January.
No wonder the legacy wagons are going dodo. Thats not enough sales to warrant selling them.

How comparable are Legacy configurations available to customers in Jan 07 vs Jan 06 ? Could it be this "can't sell product that is not offered" thing ?

Jan is always very soft since dealers are blowing cars out in Dec to boost their year numbers and smart shoppers do all their car buys end of year too ;)

True. What I am getting at is SOA sold 12000+ units in Jan-2005 without Tribeca in their line up. Could it be that Tribeca is not bringing new customers to the brand but cannabalising Outback sales?

Jan sales haven't increased much since 2005 but Jan is Subaru's least important month.

Well in January 2006, there were some left-over 2005 models still around, meaning non-Limited Legacies were available, and Legacy GT wagons were available with manual transmissions.

One wonders then why such a connection between available options/configurations and sales numbers is so hard to make by someone important at SOA...

Um, notice he said leftovers... i.e. cars that didn't sell during the 05 MY. Why is it so hard for everyone to understand the handful of enthusiasts that want a specific configuration are overwhelmingly outnumbered but real world sales data.
galli916 02-02-2007, 12:45 PM Those 268 people that bought a Baja are jackasses. I hate those cars.

Who cares whether you like it or hate it. You sure didn't pay for those Bajas.
b4wantab 02-02-2007, 06:05 PM I'm In Chicago and it sure seems that sales follow what SOA is advertizing for lease.
I hate to see them get into the incentive for sales catch 22 like GM and Ford.
Peace,
Greg
