I had some rather serious damage done to my RS...it is being repaired by the insurance company...but I have a question.

On the estimate they are listing "RT quarter panel RS $365.25". If I recall the Impreza doesn't have seperate quarter panels...the side of the car is one big piece...well, maybe the rear section is one big piece (from trunk to door, bottom to roofline). Anyone know?

I find it crazy that they will replace that whole section! Good...but crazy.

Any insight?

There are standard "cut" areas for the quarter panels. They usually cut from the inside edge of the trunk, just past the taillight then straight down the middle to just past the rear seat mounts. Then, out the side right where the door meets up, actually a few inches ahead of it. So you get like the whole back corner of the car, with enough extra material to weld it to the car. That is the standard cut for a salvage rear quarter panel. Sounds like a bit too much material for $365 though. So, they may just get a skin and spot weld that side back on, after carefully peeling off the outside "skin" of the quarter panel. Both work ok, the former is a bit less structurally sound, but the latter has a greater chace of rusting out. And based on the pics of your car they will replace the door as well. Hope that helps.

Yeah! That helps a ton...I was pretty curious about how it was going to work. I think the repair shop is sick of me calling with questions...but I am still gonna go down there and take a look at everything.

The list of work they are going to do is pretty extensive. I'll post a scan of the sheet when I can.

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate it.
