View Full Version : Spraying Nitrous on IC
STL WRX 02-04-2007, 12:05 AM When running a nitrous sprayer on the IC at the track do you spray to cool the IC before your run or spray while running down the track? Is it safe to be spraying nitrous on the top mount near the turbo since nitrous is flammable and the turbo is quite hot?
Rayman21287 02-04-2007, 01:06 AM Actually, nitrous itself is not flammable.
Master2192 02-04-2007, 02:31 AM Actually, nitrous itself is not flammable.
Exactly
STL WRX 02-04-2007, 05:00 PM Ok now that I know it's not flammable by itself whats the best method of spraying the intercooler? On a full throttle switch that sprays while im going down the track or spray it a couple good times when I am next in line in the staging lane.
Thanks for you help guys...
Danny_B 02-04-2007, 05:11 PM i think a purge switch, and WOT switch, purge before launch to get the intercooler temp down and spray all the way to the finish.

Damn... that would be one cold ic.
medamullet 02-11-2007, 10:50 PM ^^That's the idea ;)
living4surf 02-12-2007, 06:13 PM i would only spray before the run though it would not be very effective at cooling the intercooler. but if you spray as you are running you will get nitrous into the intake and into the motor which will be bad.
WRXG0N 02-12-2007, 06:56 PM ^^exactly
Danny_B 03-11-2007, 07:21 PM i think CO2 would be better, its inert and wouldnt affect the motor if it were to be ingested by the intake.
O5UUREKS 03-12-2007, 01:23 AM Might as well get the medical grade nitrous and hand out ballons and then everyone will think that your really haulin a$$. This way at least you won't be waisting all that nitrous.
Just kidding, but really, it's too expensive to spray that way.
they dyno tested this mod a while ago and found the increase only came from the engine sucking in the nitrous from the atmosphere, the cooling effect is not significant enough. Might as well just use CO2 if your heart is dead set on it.

But you still wouldn't want too much of it to get in the intake since oxygen is what burns right?

Just because someone is interested in spraying nitrous on the intercooler, doesn't mean they are a 2F2F kiddie.
I would make sure that the nitrous isn't going to flow into my air intake.... Tbh, I would flow water onto the IC ( since its top mount ), its safer.... and doesn't cost so much.
srREXed 03-16-2007, 12:15 AM If you are going to use it properly you should really just spray it while/before staging at the tree... It would come in handy more during hot weather then when its cold outside. Spraying it down the track would be pointless if you have already iced your IC down already, and you dont want to blow up from nitrous ingestion through your intake in unmeasurable amounts...

Get it right fool...that's from F&F1...geesh.
Seriously though, Spray water or if you want a water antifreeze mix as the alcohol in the antifreeze can speed up the evaporation process.

I have no clue what you just meant to say. What does antifreeze have to do with spraying an intercooler down?
Alky should go into the motor to be more effective, not on the intercooler. (could say the same for nitrous but its not good unmeasured being sucked into the intake filter)
nxwrxfx 03-16-2007, 10:15 AM I say use CO2. I'm have the same setup going into my car in a few weeks so i'll be ready for the crazy Texan summer heat waves that we have here.
Nitrous is just too expensive. CO2 should get you the results you want if you are just wanting to cool down your intercooler.
