View Full Version : i just have a question about cobb ap in general
03SuBbYWrX 02-05-2007, 03:21 PM I have a 03 wrx with the following mods on or going to put on my car. K & N cold air intake, turboxs blow off valve, boost controller, APS SR30 turbo, 660cc fuel injectors, walbro fuel pump, invidia catless downpipe, catless uppipe, and cat-back. I was thinking of getting a cobb accesport and having a performce shop professionial tune it. or should i get it reflashed using ecutech. My friend said that if i tuned it myself with a map i would want to get a wideband 02 sensor, but if i got it professionaly tuned i wouldn't need to buy the wideband. I know long story, but i guess what im asking is what are your ideas?
Thanks
parker/slc/gc8fan 02-05-2007, 03:35 PM ti depends on what you want to do with your tune.
The AP will let you switch between different maps. tyhat means the tuner could make a high boost, low boost, race gas, and pump gas maps. You could switch between those at will.
The ECUtek is a one time use map. Both will offer similar if not identical results, but they simply cater to different needs.
I'd reccomend a bit more research as they are both very capable 9tuning wise)
hondaeater69 02-05-2007, 09:37 PM yea if you get a custom tune, no need to buy your own WB.
my opinion is the cobb system has more value. available map switching, CEL reader etc.
Bbasso 02-06-2007, 01:36 AM get it done by a Pro, you will be happier in the long run.
03SuBbYWrX 02-07-2007, 12:23 AM im getting my car professionaly tuned by a shop by me. so obviously i asked them questions. i'm not going to buy a WB. but i asked the shopped and they didn't really give me any suggestion except that with a cobb, yeah you can change your maps at wil, as to the ecutek is one set map. so i'm thinking of going with a cobb just so i can switch the maps. i told the shop whta i really had on my car, and the firts thing they said was, "yeah wow, you def need a good tuning". But yea keep posting opinions. also, how much whp u think ill run with that setup. MY mods are, catless uppipe, catless downpipe, cat-back with no resinator, blow-off valve, cold air intake, boost controller, sr30 turbo, 660cc injectors, walbro fuel pump, and later to come a bigger intercooler, but lets just add that out for now. thanks guys
parker/slc/gc8fan 02-07-2007, 02:16 AM Honestly, I'm wondering how long its been and why your car is running on that setup.
Seriously.
Unless you've stayed way out of boost when driving that car, and you got lucky with the injectors, it should be freaking out. Have you been driving it hard at all?
Unless your car is mechanically damaged, the tune should transform your car. The stock intercooler is going to drastically hold back your power levels, But, the tune will make the car so much easier/funner to drive, all the time. You'll definetly love a custom tune. Just make sure you do it again when you get the intercooler. (or any other part that significantly effects mechanical performance)
As a guess, I'd say you can gain with your setup (assuming you are on stock tuning now) about 30-70 hp, and 30-80 ft lbs. Just a guess though, your car doesnt seem to apply to what I think. Cause honestly, it should run like crap if everything other than what you listed is stock.
03SuBbYWrX 02-07-2007, 04:23 PM why should it be running like crap. the mods on my car currently are catless downpipe, catless uppipe, cat- back with no resinator, bov, cold-air intake, and a boost controller. currently when i run my car hard. ill hit about 17 psi in 2nd and 17.5 in 3rd. the turbo spool up is very quick with the stock turbo surprisingly. i don't run my car hard that much since i know that the fuel cuts out at 18-19 psi. that why i need a tune so i can run 23-24 with the new turbo, injectors, and fuel pump. i took my car in to the dealer and they said everything ran great except they need to take out the trans and do an overhaul of it. that under warrenty thank god. but with the new setup ( sr30 tubo, 660 cc injectors, and a walbro fuel pump) i'll bet ill be enjoying the ride. currently my car will keep even or even beat the sti with downpipe and exhaust (i've raced two) until around 110 or so. once my new setup is in and a tune ill be kicking those sti's asses. any more thoughts on the topic, please let me know
