I have an 02 WRX, hp mods include TurboSmart BOV, Turbo XS TBE, GP Moto Header, cold air intake, Turbo XS TMIC. I am running stock turbo, ecu etc....I would like to get a little more efficiency and power out of my stock turbo.

I am contemplating a Turbo XS HPBC, My question is am I going in the right direction? I would like to run 16-17psi of boost and have no fall off, I want it to hold boost through the rpm range and possibly spool up a bit quicker.

How much boost can the stock turbo handle? This car is my daily driver so yeah more power the better but I need it to behave normally in different temperatures, no fuel cut off, no overboosting etc.... Can someone maybe advise me on the pros and cons of my MBC dilemma? Thanks

stock turbo can only hold on the td04 is 18 lbs max then the studs blow out done it twice then screwed my turbo.

what you should set it at is 16lbs for all weather and no fuel cutoff or lag or any crap trust me or your boost gauge is wrong hooked up if it reads wrong.

On stock EM, no more than 16 psi and you still have to watch PTFB. Tuned, th elittle guy will blow pretty hard, over 20 psi...mor ethan people first thought...But those RPM kill it quickly.

Plenty of tuners working well into the 20's on the TD04. Its the RPMS h=that will eventually kill the bearings...

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I appreciate it.

Am I hurting my car because I am not running any type of engine management? Should I be? what do you recommend, as you can tell I am a novice when it comes to the tuning game? I live in Charlotte, NC are there any tuners out there?

Also, would it be ok to hook the MBC up and set it at 16, I would be happy with a couple pounds and a stronger hold. Will I need to have it tuned after?
Thanks

Your stock ECU is giving plenty of fuel for 15.5-16 psi. Logs still look good. Beyond that, it gets lean fast. The instant spool and full boost in the lower gears is what the MBC gets you. A tune will still yield more power though.

The above is pure garbage.

DISREGARD THE ABOVE POST

Thanks REX8, you have educated me.

With the MBC you said I will have to watch my PTFB, will I have to add a solenoid to run this MBC safely? or should I run less boost with it, maybe 15psi?

Or should I just forget the MBC, get a good tune and run the stock boost controller? What do you think would be a better route?

Thanks for your time

the answer depends on how disciplined you are.

if you can drive around ptfb, then away you go.

if you need to have as many failsafes in place as possible, then reflash and forget the mbc.

i would suggest that IF you reflash, you install a 3 port solenoid in place of the oem solenoid. the gm boost control solenoid is effective, an oem-quality part, and cheap.

you could also keep the mbc AND get a reflash, which has its own advantages.

in any event, no one will ever dissuade you from getting a custom tune--that is, unless your tuner is an imbicile. in that case they could do more harm than good.

Thanks Ride

I think I will go with a tune and the solenoid for now. I think I need to educate myself and do more research before I get into MBC's.

Thank you everyone for the info.

I have a solenoid with a throttle switch that controls my mc, I"m thinking about selling it cheap. I'll let you know if I do.

If anything always be conservative on your boost levels if your really unsure how your air/fuel ratio looks

Careful, there's talk about two different solenoids:
1. the boost control solenoid (stock or GM or otherwise)
2. a solenoid to bypass/engage a MBC (grainger or otherwise)
Just some homework for ya...

without a tune you should atleast run egt, boost, and knock sensor........you're probably way off on your tune........

boxer4racing..dale teague..

get rid of the mbc....partial throttle full boost issues..
