I've been curious about if I was improving at my last track day at MSR (http://www.motorsportranch.com) and I captured some video from one of my afternoon sessions to see how I was doing.

My fastest lap from this session was a 1:29.17 but I won't post the video of that since the audio has a bunch of me yelling to myself about apexes and track out cones.

So anyway, here's a lap of 1:29.21 (the lap right after the faster one), with just a little bit of talking:

Car: 06 STi, Stock HP (AP wasn't bought at the time), WL steering rack bushings, Alignment of -1.0 up front, but stock all round otherwise, and OEM tires

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6797627925772281571

Overall I think I could improve it a bit, and may have some slightly faster laps on other sessions, but I'll settle for this for now. Too much time capturing video.

I'd guess that you left at least a half second in that first right-left combination. By doing that incredibly late apex for the right hander you a) covered a lot of unnecessary distance and b) had excessive speed for the left hander. That excessive speed forced you to be off throttle at a point where I'd want to already be at WOT and starting to unwind the wheel. With a corner combination like that, you want to sacrifice the first corner to optimize exit speed on the second corner. With this particular combination it has the added benefit of saving time on entry and if you were going w2w you'd be able to protect against a pass.

There is a tenth here and there all over the place as well. A lot of times you were a couple feet away from the curbs where you should have been at the very least touching the curb if not on top or two wheels inside. It is amazing how much time per corner can be lost by just being a foot away from the apex.

The tires are holding you back a lot.
You can take Little Bend faster, as well as the next corner and also Big Bend. Just get off the brakes a little earlier than you normally would and trust the car.
