I went Stg2 today with Cobb UP/DP (w/ cat) and Cobb 91 Stg2 map. While driving home up a 10% grade hill I noticed a pretty loud knock when I was going about 30mph at about 2500rpm (I have an EAT but am guessing I was in 4th). I didn’t notice this after I picked the car up from the shop because I wasn’t driving with the windows down.

I also notice this knock when going from a standstill on flat ground around boost time.

I can also smell a little bit of exhaust in the cabin when the car is at idle and the vent is not on recirculate . I guessing these is either due to some cats that have been removed with the install of the UP/DP or there is a leak somewhere?

I can also hear the turbo spool more than previously (I am guessing this is normal with Stg2?) and bit of a chirp (like a bird).

I was Cobb Stg1 (stock other than the map) for about a month and didn’t notice the knock.

I am going to try to data log tomorrow and post them and send to Cobb.

Is the knock something that is real damaging short term until it is fixed? Do the issues at hand warrant flashing back to Stg1 in the interim?

I'm confused, are you hearing detonation or something "knocking"?

With the removal of the stock downpipe and the addition of the cobb dp which has no sound deadening or heat shielding, you will hear lots more turbo noises, this is normal. I didn't hear any det when I rode in the car, usually by the time you hear that "bb dropping into a paintcan" kinda noise, the det is serious enough to cause a big drop in power as your ecu drops timing.

You can expect your exhaust to smell a little worse and be a bit more noticeable at a stop with the removal of a cat. I recirc when I drive around town now that I'm sans cats. Run the car until the anti-sieze and WD40 burns off, then crawl under and look for signs of leaking (soot at the junctions). I didn't hear anything today that suggested a leak. A leak at your up-pipe or down pipe are usually pretty loud, especially at startup. Up-pipe leaks will usually make a screaming kind of sound until the exhaust warms up.

^^yep, exactly. Check for black carbon marks around the flanges of the UPP and DP.

Not sure if you would clasify it knocking or detination, its sounds like my first car a 73 Dodge Dart that knocked when I beat on it..

Supermarkus, we didnt hear the noise I am talking about yesterday when we went for a ride becuase the windows were up. I promise you if the windows were donwn we both would have heard it..

I went to data log this afternoon and connected ODB cable (Tactrix) to my laptop, started the car and it run for a about 30 seconds and then died.

It wouldnt start so I connected the AP 2.0 and verified that the Stg2 map and tried to flash back to stock and back to Stg1 and it threw an error that it couldnt recognize the map!

So, I then unmarried the AP and remarried and flashed with Stg2 and the car started fine but through a CEL and Blinking Cruise Control.

The AP couldnt see the CEL Codes so I borrowed another LGT members CEL Diag tool (?) and it showed codes 700 and 1718. One of those apparently is a transmission control unit issue and I am not sure what the other is??

This makes me think about what Hogmeat said earlier that the dp is loose and banging against the firewall.

I was finally able to log with the Tactrix cable and EcuExplorer. I have the AP logs from data logging but it appears that you can upload files here.. Is there another location on the forum that you can?

I'll take a look at your datalogs. I did notice that the hanger for the downpipe on the EAT trannies looks quite a bit different than on the MT. The word flimsy comes to mind.

Det should sound like you're dropping ball bearings into an empty paint can or onto a piece of sheet metal lying on concrete.
