View Full Version : 2007=No BBS wheels on sti?
Subaruski420 02-11-2007, 11:06 PM 2007=No BBS wheels on sti? The head guy at the Subaru display at the Chicago auto show told me this. Then he showed me on the wheel that it no longer said bbs? I know they just went out of business but how did subaru compensate for this?
secorsubaru 02-11-2007, 11:18 PM all the regular 2007 STi's we have gotten so far had BBS wheels on them........

Maybe its the 08 then. The wheels on the sti that was on the show floor did not say BBS inbetween the lug nuts.

BBS did not go out of business.
Subaruski420 02-11-2007, 11:28 PM BBS did not go out of business.
Really thats cool then. I thought i read somewhere that they went bankrupt. What are the details then?
wagman01 02-11-2007, 11:29 PM Yes, they filed for bankruptcy. They are still in business.

Going bankrupt doesn't mean out of business.
Subaruski420 02-11-2007, 11:35 PM Ok but back to the point. Subaru no longer uses BBS wheels.
TurboRX 02-11-2007, 11:40 PM The STI Limited doesn't have BBS rims. The Limited's wheels are made by Enkei.

I'm talking about the regular STI. No BBS. They look exactly the same just no BBS center cap and no BBS logo on the wheel itself.
jjjheimer 02-11-2007, 11:58 PM I can confirm this. My standard '07 STI does not have BBS on the rim - only STI.
Subaruski420 02-12-2007, 12:01 AM I can confirm this. My standard '07 STI does not have BBS on the rim - only STI.
Ok so i figured Subaru found out BBS was having trouble and adjusted there product. Same wheels still forged and same materials but not made by bbs.
Achilles38WRX 02-12-2007, 12:02 AM so they changed the center cap?
Subaruski420 02-12-2007, 12:13 AM so they changed the center cap?
yes center cap now says STI. It reminded me of the Spec C center cap. I think its also the same on as on the limited.

they just don't have the BBS wheel caps, they've been replaced with the STI wheel caps, but they are still BBS
Impreza01 02-12-2007, 12:27 AM Is it really that hard to figure out you guys? The wheel is a BBS wheel; it just does not have the BBS label or the BBS center cap.
Here's a 2005/2006 STI Wheel before the change:

SiC Stoner 02-12-2007, 12:27 AM but are they still made my bbs? or just subaru rip offs?
edit: i just read this^^^^^^^^^^^^
Subaruski420 02-12-2007, 12:29 AM I realize these people that work for Subaru at the show are just fed certain information but he specifically told me that this wheel is no longer manufactured by BBS. Although it still looks exactly the same. I think the 2008 model will have a whole new wheel.
amarpauld 02-12-2007, 12:30 AM but are they still made my bbs? or just subaru rip offs?
They're probably rotas
Unit 91 02-12-2007, 12:32 AM they just don't have the BBS wheel caps, they've been replaced with the STI wheel caps, but they are still BBS
Correct. Order a new one. Still comes in a BBS box. Only the center cap is different.
left footed whooten 02-12-2007, 12:47 AM They've used others before, just before they released the US STI. Rays, Enkei...they're all fine by me.

The guy at the New York show last year told me the Spec B Legacy had 17" wheels. They're just spokesmodels.
RedScooby02 02-12-2007, 12:56 AM Funny that I happened upon this thread, cause I was just looking at an 07' STi at the track today, and noted that the rim didn't have BBS stamped on it. Just the nifty STi logo, and the center cap. But, they looked identical to the BBS's on my WRX!
(and, oh yeah, in case anybody wondered...14.22et @ 95.67mph, w/ a miserable 2.5 60'!!!):(
Dragicon 02-12-2007, 01:27 AM They are the same rims, different center caps! /THREAD
EBWRC#1 02-12-2007, 01:35 AM Wow..I was just wonder about this!
Achilles38WRX 02-12-2007, 01:37 AM so they changed the center cap?
they just don't have the BBS wheel caps,

kennyvb 02-12-2007, 01:49 AM Forget the cap...Where's the stamp? Not that it matters

Unit 91 02-12-2007, 02:00 AM On the back, iirc.
I just had a set of brand new wheels ordered for an '07 STi pass through my hands. Trust me... they were BBS wheels.
Kostamojen 02-12-2007, 02:41 AM How is this news?
Jon [in CT] 02-12-2007, 08:39 AM I realize these people that work for Subaru at the show are just fed certain information but he specifically told me that this wheel is no longer manufactured by BBS. They're just spokesmodels.SOA hires a company like epeopleskills.com to do staffing and logistics for the car shows. The reps working Subaru's displays get about a week of training from SOA about Subarus and are sent through a ride-n-drive. It's not surprising a show rep might confuse the wheel difference between the STI and STI Limited. And BBS wheels will not be standard equipment on the 08 STI, although you'll still be able to order your 08 STI with BBS rims as a port- or dealer-installed accessory.
Jfrankon 02-12-2007, 02:36 PM Please elaborate

If they are a different size, I can hear the stock class autocrossers wailing now.
Siper2 02-12-2007, 04:16 PM I wonder how Subaru not officially "siding" with BBS anymore, will affect pricing on these bad boys:

Clearance sales are always good. :D
blk_wrx 02-12-2007, 05:58 PM All i care is the about the weight... are the 07 rims the same weight as the previous models?
Unit 91 02-12-2007, 05:59 PM I'm gonna lock this now because it's... well... outlived it's usefulness.
