I have the BBS RK 17 and have been getting knicks on the lip. No unusual driving conditions or contact I've noticed. Only 3k mi on my car. I have two on one wheel and one on another. If this has happened to your wheels, what caused it? I would just brush it off as road wear but, it's the first time I've ever seen this kind of knick with no known cause; maybe just catches pebbles better than some wheels?

I'm thinking of a darker metallic grey or dark bronze paint job for these.

If they are actual knicks/chips, then there isn't much you can do to prevent it (aside from adding more clear coat or perhaps something like rockblocker film). When I had my BBS RK wheels, I noticed that the 'leading' sides of the spokes got lots of very small chips in them - and I never used them in the winter. IMO, the paint on the RKs seems very prone to chipping.
