So we had one of our rear pads on our 2000RS go. It never squeaked and the mechanic who did our last inspection about 6 months ago never said anything about it being low. As a result we've gouged out a big hole in one of the two rear rotors.
Should we replace both of them, or just the one that't been messed up. I'm going to replace all the pads, but what about the rotors? I'm tempted to change them both, but just figured I'd find out first.

Replace them both, to maintain balanced braking. Replacing just a single rotor is false economy.

I ended up changing them both, thanks for the advice. I need a garage; it was damn cold outside all day yesterday.
Also a little advice. Under no circumstance shoould you damage the bolts that hold the caliper onto the caliper support. Apparently no one makes 8mm diameter bolts with a 1mm thread pitch. It took me 1 1/2 hours of driving around to find one.

I see you're in PA and saying about the mechanic not saying anything about the brakes when you had it inspected. Do you know they only generally pull one front wheel, and the diagonal opposite rear wheel. Were the pads on both sides worn out, or just one side? Do you know which side they pulled for inspection? (It should be marked on the back of your inspection sticker, and is probably also listed on the invoice.)
