After putting some 40k miles on my 17"ers, I have swapped back to my stock 16" rims and RE92's, which at a guess have done about 12-15k miles. The RE92's have spent most of their 5.5 year life in storage.
When I put them on today, everything felt fine but they had gone down to about 15-20psi before I topped them off. I'm going to be keeping an eye on the pressures over the next few days weeks, but anything else to watch for on stored tires? They look good, but does rubber age?? I know hoses etc. do, but do tires?

check for cracks in the sidewall. Most old tires loose pressure that way because the casing's integrity isn't as good at holding air as it did new.

Yes they age ozone kills them also.Five and a half years is geting on the old side.If i remember right five years is all that most tire manufactures warrenty. There is NO fed age standard that i know of i have been out of the tire biz for a while.Brad

Ok, I looked over them again this evening and they seem fine, but they do have a 'grey-not-black' aged look about them. No obvious cracks, but I did note what look like stretch marks. I'll keep an eye on them.

Isn't that what a tire is supposed to do? So how is a structurally sound tire that's a few years old and has no physical defects a bad idea to use? Sure, if it's cracked and funky it's probably not a good idea to use... sounds like someone's trying to sell some tires :)

This was taken from Ford's website. (http://www.ford.com/en/innovation/safety/resources/tireSafety.htm) I'm sure if you search around, you can find similar recommendations elsewhere.
Age
Tires degrade over time, even when they are not being used. It is recommended that tires generally be replaced after 6 years of normal service. Heat caused by hot climates or frequent high loading conditions can accelerate the aging process.
You should replace the spare tire when you replace the other road tires due to the aging of the spare tire.
