I just bought the Motomaster spiral cell bettery for my Impreza. It is Canadian Tire's version of the Optima. Comapring the terminal positions on the top of the battery, the new battery has its terminals closer to the front of the car,and the positive battery cable is too short to reach.

Can the position of these top terminals be changed?

I partially pried off the plastic covering where the terminals are and it almost looks as if there are "mounting spots" to mount terminals in different positions (forward, middle, back)

Thanks,

I wouldn't pry the top off the battery, there's lots of nasty acid inside there, but I'm sure you already know about the acid. What I'd do if I were in your situation, is trace the positive battery cable and see where it's attached to other things, like brackets and such. There should be several little plastic things that hold the battery cables in place along their length. Every time I have to replace battery cable ends at work I almost always have to undo some of the plastic clips that hold the battery cables to get enough slack in them to make the cables reach the terminals.

Maybe you can make the cable reach, if it's attached to the fender well, by undoing the harnes. I managed to gain enough by doing that to reach the post on mine...

You can't move the terminals. They are placed when the battery is manufactured.
To use that battery you need to replace the positive starter cable. Assuming you can get the same stuff in your parts stores as we get down here, you need to find a "universal starter to switch" cable which will have large ring terminals on both ends. You want one that is at least 29-30" long. The replacement cable should be installed in exactly the same manner as the original so it is protected from engine heat and movement.

I ran a test fit of the optima combo with terrminals closer to the front... I did not like how the cable was pulled tight. The 30" starter cables were 5 bucks at walmart, but i opted for the right battery.
