I'm done with moding the engine till spring break before some internals go in. I want to clean up the engine bay a bit to make it shinier. Whats the best stuff to use without eating away plastic??? Thanks

At work, I use non concentrated degreasser when the engine is cold. Spray it on let sit for 20 seconds then spray it off. Once it is dry, use a plastic dressing. I use Car Brite inside out detailer for the shine. Before that, unscrew rusty bolts clean em up and stuff like that.

I get a bucket, put a small splash of simple green in it, fill the bucket 1/2 full with water, then use it to wet a rag a slowly clean the bay. This allows you to use your finger behind the towel to really clean those nooks and crannies.

I use some armor-all diluted with water and spray on the hoses and all the black plastic bits. I also scrub the engine with with a soft brush and some gunk after you get the motor hot.

Yes, Simple Green is simply the BEST!

Works great on cleaning a dirty engine.

Check out www.autopia.org for all of your detailing questions/concerns. The following is a link specifically discussing David's approach to doing the engine:

There many other reviews, articles and discussions on that site that you may find helpful as well.
