I currently have two different sets of tires on my 03 RS in the front I have yokohamas avs es100 with 6/32 left and in the rear I have brand new bf goodrich g-force sport with 9/32 left. Do I have to worry about anything? I ask because the tech said I should replace the yokohamas as soon as possible because it would/can cause my 4eat to mess up and cause two tires to pull and two tires to pull messing up even more stuff.

Also if I don't need new tires in the front too shouldn't I rotate when it dries up for summer since I won't have to worry about hydroplaning anymore.

it might be okay. however, just make sure they are the same size. [hight]

They are exactly the same size. What I don't get is I would of had this possible problem before I got new tires since my fronts were almost bald and rears had 6/32 which is alot worse than the difference they are now.

Read your manual. You need to be within 1/4" in circumference for you car to be happy. Not all tires (even those listed as the same size) are made the same, especially when going across brands like you are.

ps- rotate your tires more.

I have no place to do it. College blows for the car. And they are almost 3/10" difference so I guess I should be fine.

1- Pay someone the $15 to do it then

2- 3/10" tread depth is a lot more than 1/4" difference in circumference.

It's very important to have all wheels the same circumference with 4wd.. I had an old chevy 4x4 with a locking transfer case. To save some money, I had one brand of tires in the front and another brand in the back. Both sets of tires had the same measurements on the sidewall but they were different circumferences.

Even though the tires were the same "numbers," the transmission still bound up big time in 4wd and the truck squirmed down the road. Since subarus are AWD, the transmission takes up that slack all the time and can wear things out in a hurry if everything isn't matched properly.

Like others said, as long as they're w/in 1/4" circumference of each other it should be fine and it's definitely a good idea to check to be sure.

I have miss matched tires, and when I'm in 4wd, turning the wheel left or right causes ugly sound and friction, like I'm stepping on the brakes. Can't afford new tires. using front wheel drive only, cept in the snow and ice.

Servicing your burnt differentials is a lot more expensive than buying that last 2 tires.

Let us know after several 1k miles how your car is doing after this short term economy decision.

This post is useless unless we know what car you drive.
