Don't see why people won't use this , read all the threads 90 percent says cold air will hydro-lock the motor but no one will bring this up .

Short ram intake = hot air intake

Cold air intake = possible Hydrolock

You just cant win can yah... :)

Good concept, it might work. However, the air will also take the path of least resistance, so I'd think that unless the filter is truly submerged, it would still draw air (and water) through your main filter. But I could be wrong.

I will say that I think that demo on that page is extremely flawed by a massively long, and unrealistically vertical, intake tube. I don't think any CAI has a 6' long tube with about 3' of it vertical...

u can always cut your intake and make it a little shorter like injen thats what i did with mine

Also at the same time, in a turbocharged car the water, or what little water it is, is going to go through the red hot turbo, the pretty hot intercooler, than the engine, so by than there isn't any real water except for maybe steam and vapor. Not saying that the bypass valve is a bad idea, but for turbocharged cars I wouldn't think it is that needed.

^^ Unless the water volume is too great, doesn't vaporize soon enough and cause your turbo blades to crack due to the sudden temperature change.

if you think your turbo protects you from hydrolock you're wrong.

Do also remember that if you talk to AEM, they highly recommend to NOT have this on turbo systems. Rumor has it that it'll suck the sponge right through the tubing.

The CAI air filter placement for the 2006+ is in a pretty protected spot tucked inside the bumper/wheel well right behind the fog light. No part of the AEM filter is directly exposed to the elements. One would have to drive into a pond at full speed or something to get water all the way up into the motor.

18" up the pipe would mean its past the bypass filter on a normal CAI system.

what kentrick said is right, the turbo will eat that sponge up, it was made for n/a cars.

ive seen something where it gos over the filter

suposed to do the same thing

i think injen haves it! it bags the filter

+1^ another way of looking at it at that point is, turbo = water pump

Are you talking about the outer wear pre-filter...Its like a Nylon cover for the filter, water resistant..

I always run those if i use an open element filter..keeps the filter cleaner longer too without sacrificing air flow
