View Full Version : Washer Fluid not spraying
wrx2k4blue 02-17-2007, 04:58 PM So, I just had some major engine work done on my car and I think as a result, my washer fluid no longer sprays.
I checked the 30A fuse and it looks fine. The wipers move when I press the washer fluid button but no fluid comes out.
I guess I don't really know what to look for. I traced the hose coming from the nozzles to the tank and it looks like it's connected. However, there are two metal connectors that do not seem to be connected to anything
Here is the best pic I could take with my camera phone:

If something is supposed to be connected to that, then I can't seem to find where that 'dangling' connector is. I would think it'd be pretty obvious and nearby but I don't see anything...
WRXG0N 02-17-2007, 05:04 PM Yea, I just checked mine...there's a wire connected to that that's bound by tape and branches off to some other connector.
Look around for one, it may have been tucked under something.
Mavrik 02-17-2007, 05:10 PM dumb question... your pushing the button right?
buccilli15 02-17-2007, 05:16 PM Another dumb question....Could "anything" be frozen? This happened to me a few weeks back.
wrx2k4blue 02-17-2007, 05:17 PM Nope, no dumb questions here since mine seems to be the dumbest "Should something be connected to this?". I guess it's kind of obvious that something should be connected to that...i'm just surprised I can't see the connector or at least something dangling that SHOULD be connected. Gotta look harder...
4pOwnag3 02-17-2007, 05:18 PM check for a puddle, if not make sure that that plug is plugged in.

Well the pump itself has one connector and thats it. reason I ask if your pressing the button on the wiper arm instead of pulling it is because thats the most common thing I see when I get the "my washer isn't working" concern. Now if your pushing the botton and the wipers pass but no sound of a pump is heard and fluid isn't frozen. Chances are its not plugged in, the pump is bad or something of that nature.
02WHITEDUB 02-17-2007, 05:41 PM It's obviously the connector.
There are two connectors in that vicinity - one for the sedan pump and an extra one for the rear pump on wagons. Keep looking, it's there.
kirkeemonster 02-17-2007, 05:44 PM Did you check your blinker fluid? Could be that reason.

What would blinker fluid have to do with it? everyone knows thats connected to your brakes.
SLKatzdorn 02-17-2007, 06:13 PM Thats the washer fluid pump. There is a plug somewhere around there. One is black and one is green I believe. The black one is the one that should be plugged in. If you have to, just un screw the two screws that hold the tank in and pick it up and look around. ---Steve
wrx2k4blue 02-17-2007, 07:09 PM Yep, I saw the two screws securing the tank down. Is that all that's holding it in? So if I unscrew those the entire tank lifts up? That would help a lot if I could just move that out of the way. The way it is right now, I just can't see a loose line hanging around.
Since one of them is for a wagon's rear washer fluid line, would there be something to cover up that terminal?
02WHITEDUB 02-17-2007, 08:45 PM The harness for the rear pump is open, but filled with dialectric grease. The rear one is green.
Mulder 02-17-2007, 09:15 PM Is the pump running when you hit the switch? If it is there is a clog somewhere in the hoses or nozzles. If it isn't running the circuit needs to be traced.
wrx2k4blue 02-17-2007, 09:48 PM It just seems too much of a coincidence that this happened after I had parts installed under the hood (turbo, intercooler, uppipe). So, I'm guessing the connector wasn't plugged back in. Judging from my pic above, it does look that way right? Nothing is connected?
02WHITEDUB 02-17-2007, 11:38 PM How did this thread make it to 16 posts when the original post shows an unplugged pump?

 I guess some didn't look at my pic close enough or it was a blurry picture. That's all I needed to hear! If someone recognizes that as being an unplugged pump, then that's good enough for me. I'm going to look for the missing hose/connector first thing in the morning
carguy4 02-21-2007, 06:30 PM If you haven't fixed it yet the harness comes out just in front of the fuse box so you probably don't even need to pull the washer fluid tank. check more towards the fender when looking for a connector.
hope that helps
wrx2k4blue 02-21-2007, 06:57 PM Hi, thanks for the advice guys. So, I guess I should've posted this earlier. So you were right, the harness was left disconnected right in behind the fuse box and I just never saw it at first. I pulled the fluid tank and found nothing and just happened to look next to the fuse box where it was tucked behind another cable.
