View Full Version : stageII only getting 11psi..
midnight302 02-18-2007, 08:51 PM Vehicle: 04 FXT 4eat
Got stock boost gauge and only getting .07mpa or about 11psi in stageII. Did a live boost reading in the AP and verifies only 11psi tops.
And only .05mpa in StageI.
Mods: sti upipe/manifold, TXS stealthback.
Looked/listened for any boost or vacuum leaks.. seems ok. Like I said, before the mods I was only getting .05 for stageI and should be like 13psi.
No codes were listed in the AP. Any thoughts for troubleshooting?
I was looking at a TDC etune or "road" protune? Would that fix it??
Tried resetting the ECU through the AP so far too.
parker/slc/gc8fan 02-19-2007, 12:16 PM Check to make sure your boost control system is in factory condition (and in good repair).
I'm thinking your restrictor pill may be wrong.
NothnButTheFacts 02-21-2007, 01:50 AM +1 for the restrictor... just fixed my problem with it!!!
a winner by default 02-21-2007, 01:57 AM protune FTW!
SuperZ 02-21-2007, 01:58 AM maybe you just need a boost controller

Like... someone changed it before I bought the car?
parker/slc/gc8fan 02-23-2007, 01:20 PM Basically.
Or if any work was done that removed that system it may have been re-installed incorrectly.
WRXG0N 02-23-2007, 07:06 PM Sorry, don't mean to hijack, but what is the stock boost on a FXT?
Check the vacuum lines just to be sure there are no minor leaks.
Otherwise, uninstall and re-install the AP. That might fix it.
06rexwagon 02-26-2007, 10:04 AM or, tighten your wastegate actuator a couple of turns.

Yeah.. when I look at my acutator arm I only see 2 threads available..
I took some data logs with ecuexplorer, but I don't have rights to post them I guess?? can someone look at my csv files?
I think stock boost is 11psi.
Looked at vacuum lines.. no visible damage that I can see..
how do I check 'restricter pill' ??
thanks for the ideas..

uninstalling and reinstalling has worked for someone?
stock psi is 11.5 max.
Checked and there's a restrictor pill, can find any leaks... re-checked up pipe.. any other ideas???

Restrictor pill is in line between the "T" and turbo. I don't know if its the correct one, but everything looks stock
Hoses checked, Up pipe checked...
...arrggh.... More ideas??
06rexwagon 03-04-2007, 07:29 AM Dumb question, but did you remeber to uplug the green connectors after you flashed the car? I think you would be seeing less boost than you are though.
midnight302 03-04-2007, 05:25 PM yes green connectors unplugged..
compfool 03-04-2007, 06:05 PM i have the same damn Prob with my 04wrx WTF ... only 11psi
compfool 03-04-2007, 07:17 PM Any one else feel Cheated By Cobb AP2? as in So meny problems running there maps the fact we didnt get advertised options and such?

So, if you un-install the COBB maps and revert completely to stock, you have 13.5 ish PSI?
snovvbrdr 03-05-2007, 01:26 AM have you updated the latest firmware? I'm getts abit more than a full bar (~15 psi) stg 2

I think stock boost is 11.5psi, where as cobb stageII for 04 fxt 4eat is supposed to peak at 15psi, this is directly from cobb tech line.
Gfunk720 03-05-2007, 12:15 PM If you tried re-installing it and are still seeing the same PSi, I would try tightening the wastegate actuator(as another said). The arm comes pre-loaded from the factory and often needs to be tightened to accomodate the increase in boost pressure
On the 3 WRX's I have installed Stage 2 software on, all 3 needed the wastegate arm tightened. All 3 were only hitting around 14psi(16.8 is target) and after a couple turns, it was right on...
Good luck
midnight302 03-05-2007, 05:14 PM I did give my wastegate arm end two turns with little effect in boost.

Here's what I've tried up to date:
Checked & Re-checked IC piping, Y-pipe and to TB (no visible cracks)
Verified Restrictor pill installed
Uninstalled and Re-installed AP
Flashed base Map to ver. 111
Checked Up-pipe to manifold connection
gave wastegate arm end two turns -- (helped a little)
Generally looked/listened for any vacuum leaks
Car runs well, but just doesn't get anywhere near target boost (15psi) per Chris at Cobb.. Thanks
WR_BLUE_05_X 03-08-2007, 02:05 PM get a protune. every car is different and so the OTS maps that cobb makes dont always work well with every car. i had the same problem when i upgraded my turbo. 13lbs on a vf30 sucks. fixed it by perrin boost control selnoid. and protune. now at 20psi. so your best bet is talk to a tuner ask them what kinda boost controller or whatnot then get a tune. just my .02
parker/slc/gc8fan 03-08-2007, 04:21 PM Check the firmware on your Accessport. (currently 1.0.0.2) if that isnt up to date you'll want to get it that way.
Have you tried running a stock map to see if your boost is the same?
Do you have a friend with another WRX? You could switch boost control cylinoids. it is possible that part has gone bad.

I have a 04 forester, is it the same boost control solenoid?

pretty sure it's the same. The bracket may be different but you don't need to bolt it in to test it. Just swap the 2 vac lines and plug it in.
Adjust the wg arm another turn or 2.. just watch for boost spike..
Aprice40 05-03-2007, 12:19 AM Does anyone know what size the C clip is. I of course lost mine while trying to mash it back on. It fell through the engine compartment, bounced off the downpipe and vanished on my driveway.
On my way to the hardware store my wastegate arm popped off and i lost boost all together... i guess that C Clip is pretty important.
06rexwagon 05-03-2007, 09:45 AM I don't know the size but let me warn you about something. RESET your ecu after you get the wg arm back on. I learned this from experience. You will overboost bad if you don't.
Aprice40 05-03-2007, 12:00 PM You mean just reflash to stage 2, Or go back to stock first, then reflash to stage 2?
