View Full Version : So what is the verdict?

This may well have already been asked, but due to me busy at work (yes, terrible I know) I have hardly visited this BBS for some time.

What do the people who have actually bought one of the new WRXs think of them?

In the UK, the feedback seems to generally good. APart from the looks (which seem to grow on people day by day) the actual car itself seems to be better overall in comparison to the old turbo model.

I know you didn't have the old turbo model to compare with, so is it much better than the RS or are you all going to switch to Mitsubishi or something?

Geezer

P.S. I realise this thread will come as a shock to many of you as it in no way slags of the US or its population http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

As an RS owner, my take on the WRX comes only from the appearance standpoint:

It looks way too generic for my tastes. I think the RS looks enough different without being too "wild" looking for my conservative tastes. I'm still having a hard time telling a WRX (or any new gen Impreza) from a Toyota or Mitsu. A lot of that is because I live in the boonies and don't see much except pick-ups, SUVs, and other American iron.

I bought the RS because I didn't want to deal with the turbo "issues" and it has enough power for my needs.

Mike,
You can never have enough power!

Geezer-

I agree, except that more power would just get me into more trouble - with the law, with my wife, and of course, with my insurance company.http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

Considering other options. Then again I haven't driven a Subaru in over a year now anyways. The Evos are nice as are the Skylines. Then there is always Audi.

We're sorry there aren't any WRX owners around to answer your questions right now. They are all out driving the pants off them. Please check back later. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

I can't tell you how many times I have almost waved at Kia Rivos, Toyota Prius/Echos, etc. thinking that they were WRXs. It's all in the taillights, and at a quick glance, they're too similar.

I do like them though, and when the STi wagon comes over I might have to trade my RS in.

Geezer: you've got to be joking!
The WRX is a blast to drive. I give it a 10 in the smile factor. For the 1st few weeks of ownership my face was sore from all of the smiling, but now it's accustomed to all the grinning! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
I like the looks of it front, back, side, rear, top... heh-heh. I am so pro-biased.

Also please note that the headlights of the new body design are NOT round. They are elliptical, more precisely, offset ellipses! If I hear one more person say they are round headlights, I'm gonna, gonna, gonna,.... aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gif

Don't be waitin' too long on that STi wagon, ace, or at least, don't hold your breath. That one's in the no hope category.

I'm glad WRX owners like their cars. Subaru did it again. First the XT, then the SVX, RS, and now the WRX. I'm happy with my RS and I know that 227 hp is not a far cry from 165. couple grand & i'll be right there with the wrx. without the check engine light and without the turbo lag, for less money. Happy driving everyone

Love my Rex. Can't think of another car for the money that I'd want! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

Aside from the CEL's and the now finnicky brakes, I'm loving mine. A quick press from the right foot never fails to get me smilin' in a hurry! (Already looking forward to my drive home! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif )

An incredibly fun car, especially in the rain or snow, and an incredibly practical one too.

Kia Rios, Toyota Prius/Echos look dumb. I can see some general style similarities, but the 13" rims and pizza cutter tires give it away instantly that your not looking at a WRX. As far as performance goes, I have driven 2 RS's and they are slow. They don't have much on your standard econo-box in terms of accelleration. On the other hand, the RS looks great and handles awesome. As far as my WRX, I think it is the best all around car I have ever owned. I really liked driving a miata, but it was only fun during the summer, and only in situations with little cargo and few passengers. With my rex I get to drive like cowboy everyday, whether it's up the canyon in 2ft of snow to go riding, or going out to lunch with my co-workers. It is a very well rounded car.
