The other day as I was waxing my scooby, getting it ready for the winter months to come... i notice i had a nice rock ding on my hood... down to the metal.. and beginning to rust... i'm wondering this...

since it's getting too cold to put touch up paint on it... is there anything i can do to try to contain the rust for the winter until i'm able to get everything i need to clean it and fix it? i was thinking maybe a part of a clear bonnet or something... i'm not entirely sure... any ideas????

i put a thick layer of wax on it, that might hold... but the car will unfortunately be outside under a car cover during the harsh weather ahead... and i'd rather not have to get the entire hood painted... any help would be greatly appreciated...

It's not rusting from underneath, so it's probably not going to rust much farther, not to mention it's not going to get as much road-crap salt on it up on the hood.
But... you can get 'Rust-Mort' or Naval Jelly. Both should do the trick. I've used Rust-Mort before and it worked. It's a liquid (you'll probably have to clean the wax off of that area first) that you just dab on the affected area with a cue-tip or something. Just tape off that area. After a few times (let dry in between) It will turn the rust into a hard black substance that no longer oxidizes (rusts). Then prime and touch up when you can.
